How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

Hi:

How do I "finalize" a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

I want to finalize the disk...not just close the session/disk.

From what I have read in Windows Help, "closing" allows me to write to the disk later.

Is this true, if the disk is just R, not RW ?

I have burned JPEG images (.jpg files) to CD-R and DVD+R disks.

When I try to play them in my Sony CD/DVD player, it won't recognize the disks.

Sony's user manual says that the disks must be "finalized", not just "closed".

How do I do that with Windows ?

I treid finalizing these disks with Roxio Creator Basic, but it doesn't do anything, except eject the disks.

Windows still says that the disks have free space, and the DVD player can't recognize them.

From what I understand, if the disk is finalized, the will show no free space available.  Is this correct ?

Note:  The disks work correctly on my HP laptop which uses Vista 32-bit Home Premium.  I can view the JPEG images.

    If you don't have windows live or want to use windows live your going to have to use windows media player,

    I have a sony blue ray player and h-d upgrader and I don't have the issues your seeing, basically because I don't use anything but wlpg to burn dvd's for a dvd player to play,

    So either use a different program or stop being surprised that they don't play

    wlpg and wlmm finalizes the disks

    The quote from the Microsoft article I posted clearly states:

    "When you burn a CD or DVD using Windows Explorer, the disc

    is not finalized."

    As I previously suggested...try using the freeware CDBurnerXP

    to create a Data DVD with your photos and you should have a

    better result with your Sony DVD Player.

    Also you could create a video slideshow using Windows DVD

    Maker and that should play on your DVD Player.

    But the key point here is that I want to be able to view the JPEG images on the Sony HDTV via the Sony CD/DVD player, and according to the player's instructions, disks must be finalized.

    I have burned MP4 files tp DVD+R and DVD-R,  using Windows DVD Maker, both of which can be viewed on the Sony CD/DVD Player.

    I have burned JPEG images to a CD-R, a DVD+R, and a DVD-R, (using Windows Vista), all which are unreadable by the Sony CD/DVD player.

    The JPEG images can be read/viewed easily on my HP laptop.

    This should be rather simple.  All I want to do is  burn JPEG images to a CD (or DVD) so that they can be viewed on the Sony CD/DVD player.

    Maybe create a slide show of the images.

    If you want to play a disk in a dvd player you have to use a dvd + - R, cd's are mostly for data recovery disks not for new technology players, as far as adding to a disk later, you will have to edit the project and re-burn it, it's not likely you can just slip in the disk and add to it.

    The easiest program to burn dvd's is windows live photo gallery, pick out and highlight the photos you want to burn to dvd+ or - R,

    Click the dark blue file button, click on burn and then dvd burn, those photos will open in a dialog review box where you can drag them in the order you want them to play in, when done sorting, click on next and follow the other personalization's for the slide show.

    It's actually easier than falling off a log,

    That slide show will be retained as a project you can add to in the future, open the project, and add to it and re burn.
