Windows 7 and Bose Companion 5 speaker system losing sound intermittently.

I'm using the Windows 7 Ultimate RC, bought the full version, just haven't installed yet. I also am using Bose Companion 5 speakers. Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard, and an AMD Phenom II processor. My problem is this, my speakers work for an amount of time, usually less than a day, then all of a sudden they'll stop working, either in the middle of playing World of Warcraft, watching a video, whatever, all of a sudden they just stop working. The speakers are still listed as default in the sound settings and are still valid in hardware manager, I can unplug the USB and plug it back in and it shows up as working, etc. but no sound comes out until I reboot the computer. I am not using a hub and have tried different ports, please help. I've read around and other people are having issues with the AMD cool 'n quiet function acting up, but mine is off by default in bios, and i've also ran the AMD power monitor, both have no effect, I still lose sound completely and randomly.

None of this works ... the problem still exists. I thought I had it solved in the power settings ... if you go to advanced there's a spot to turn off USB select suspend settings, it worked for 3 days this time before deciding to just shut off again. Anything you can do to look into all this would be appreciated.

You are seeing a driver problem, and the only real solution is a better sound driver. You should keep checking for driver updates, if you wish to use the devuice in Win 7.

Well actually i tried all options i MS provided... none of them works :(

same issu, working for like 4 hours tried to get it right

how i solve it? un-plug it from USB 3, plug it to a USB2 port, and it just.. start working,

tested, none of my usb 3 port working with BOSE CP5

I understand the frustration. I've read all the fixes and tried just about all. Was next to finding some speakers that were not USB. But was having a problem trashing a set of $400. speakers. I have found only one fix that works with Windows 7. In my power settings I picked the Balanced (recommended) settings rather than the Max Performance. It has worked for about 4 days now. Previously the Companions were off line in 30 Minutes or so. I don't know why this worked. Now my computer will sleep or hibernate. Before it stayed powered all the time. I don't know but that might have something to do with the speakers not being kicked out. It's working for me Hope it helps others.

I have had my Bose Companion 5 system for 3 weeks and it has been awsome, until this morning. No sounds, no pops, squeeks or snaps :-(

Google searched for a few minutes not finding any real answers (ahhhh, remember when the net had information with no ads?). Anyway, poked around on my system and found that something had adjusted some sound card properties. I'm running windows 7 pro, so your system may be different, dialogs, tabs etc, but this should help bring that expensive Bose system back to life (hopefully).

Got "Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers" or in Win7 "Devices and Printers"

Right click on the "Bose USB Audio" icon

Select "Sound Settings"

Make sure that the "Bose USB Audio" speakers are set to default.

Select the "Communications Tab"

Select the "Do nothing" radio button.

Listen to killer audio from Bose again! :-)

Something on my system had set this tab to "reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%" Grrrrrrrr. I think that Obama called Bill Gates and asked for a "go green noise polution" initiative. Hence the reduce volume of sounds by 80%. Haha

Anyway, hope this works for you all

This Totally fixed my issue...after having paid $90 to return my system to them and have it refurbished...all to see that they just had no idea how to address the issue. This fixed it and I am so grateful! I have had this issue for years now! I had given up!
Above method will not fix the issue in the long run. The root cause of the problem is the intermittent USB system conflict. All you need to do is to plug the Bose speaker into a dedicated USB interface card without any other USB devices attached.
