Warner Music CD's sound is distorted on Dell Windows 7 computer

I have a new Dell computer operating on Windows 7. Some cd's will not play or download on Windows Media Player or iTunes as the sound is totally distorted. These same cd's were fine on my old Dell with Windows XP. The cd's also play on Hi Fi's and other computers without any problems. Is this a problem with Windows 7? (all the cd's seem to be produced by Warner Music or their associated companies).

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi ASTRA52,

I would suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I would also suggest you to install the latest sound drivers compatible for Windows 7 from the manufacturer’s website.

    Has anyone made any progress with this? Just got "Small Change" by Tom Waits which is on the Asylum label, a division of Warner Bros. Needless to say it doesn't work with my laptop.

    I have received another reply from Dell which requested that I send my laptop back in order for the 'faulty parts to be replaced' or book an appointment for a Dell engineer to come and replace the parts.

    Regardless of my hesitance to send the laptop away for a couple of weeks and have everything wiped or to pay for an engineer appointment, I'm don't believe that replacing the disc drive will solve the issue. With so many people experiencing the problem I find it hard to believe they have all received faulty parts.

    Holler,

    I received a reply from Dell tech support today. The reply gave me three steps to complete in an attempt to resolve the issue. After completing the three steps the issue continues to occur. I have replied to the email as requested by the sender to inform them that the process was unsuccesful and have attached a copy of one of the tracks as an example of th issue. I'll reply again when I receive a response. In the meantime if any of you guys want to try the three steps I will paste them below. I think the updates in the links are likely to be the same but there is an option for changing the computer selection at the top.

    Step: 1 update the DVD drive firmware:-

    1. Visit the link mentioned below:

    3. Click on the ?DOWNLOAD NOW? button.
    4. Save the file on the desktop after completing the download.
    5. Please make sure that both Battery and AC Adapter are plugged into the system.
    6. Now RUN the file saved on desktop.
    7. After you RUN the file system will restart and the drivers will be automatically updated.

    Step: 2.

    Please update the POWER DVD software in case you are using it.

    Step: 3

    Please follow the below mentioned link and update the dell data safe patch.
