System Restore does not work and returns the following error 0x80070005:__

Anonymous

"System Restore did not complete successfully, Your computer's files and settings were not changed.

Details;

System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer . Temporally disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)"

I have turned off my Zone Alarm Extreme Security software, but I get exactly the same answer.

Unfortunately the message does not tell me which file(s) are causing the problem and the error message is so vague I can't try to resolve the issue.

Hi Rotherboy,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft answers!

Firstly, I’d suggest you to uninstall the antivirus program and try to perform a system restore and check if that fixes the issue.

Refer the link below for more on uninstalling programs:

Uninstall or change a programhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Uninstall-or-change-a-program

If the above steps do not help, try doing a system restore from safe mode and check if that works fine.

Refer the below link for more details on starting your computer in safe mode:

Start your computer in safe modehttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Let us know if this helps!

Regards,

Gokul - Microsoft Support

I do believe it is time for MS to check in on this problem. I removed my AV (Panda) and all traces of it from my Registry. I had help from Panda and nothing worked. So with NO AV on my computer and I still get the System Restore Failed and the error message blames my AV that I don't have. Duh! I am not the only one with this problem and a check of the net reveals many people with this problem in both Vista and W7. I think MS should chime in and help us. Thank you

This is a nasty widespread problem. All one has to do is a search on Bing, Google, etc and there is a plethora of posts about it. I have done every suggestion available including "Repair Install" and the problem still exists. I use PANDA 2011 & Windows 7 Professional 64 but it doesn't seem like it matters what AV program is being used by the posts here. In fact I have come to believe it might not be caused by an AV program, because after I did the Repair Install there was NO AV program on my computer and all references to PANDA were removed from the registry prior to this. To me it seems like with so many users with this problem it should be a Microsoft problem. I doubt it will get fixed by MS because they are too busy working on Windows 8 so they can make more money to be bothered with us little people. If a large Corporation complained of this problem, then something might get done. But if anybody out there comes up with a solution please let us all know. TIA

starting in safe mode gives the same result - "cannot restore to restore point - try another"

using multiple drives , monitored, restore runs but will not restore.
