"System Restore did not complete successfully, Your computer's files and settings were not changed.

Details;

System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer . Temporally disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)"

I have turned off my Zone Alarm Extreme Security software, but I get exactly the same answer.

Unfortunately the message does not tell me which file(s) are causing the problem and the error message is so vague I can't try to resolve the issue.

Thanks for posting in Microsoft answers!

Firstly, I’d suggest you to uninstall the antivirus program and try to perform a system restore and check if that fixes the issue.

If the above steps do not help, try doing a system restore from safe mode and check if that works fine.

    But you will have done a successful System Restore. If you need to, rip out Norton once again, while your machine is clean and running well. Immediately create a restore point, AFTER you have completely removed Norton. Make a note of that point, and you will always be able to return to a Norton-free system. Go with the free Microsoft Security Essentials software as your new anti-viral program. It does NOT interfere at all with doing System Restore.

    The stupidity of it all is that when I bought my computer, it had Norton already on it, so System Restore is going to put it back.....  Yet I have to uninstall it in order to run the System Restore.

    Will Microsoft ever get anything right?

    I had this Error pop-up after System Restore failed:

    System Restore did not complete successfully.

    Your computer's files and settings were not changed.

    Details: An unspecidfied error occured during System Restore. (0xc0000022).

    Turning off the "Norton Tamper Protection" in my "Norton Internet Security 2010" software did the trick.

    System Restore would not complete while the Tamper Protection was turned on - I tried it 3 times.

    With the Tamper Protection turned off System Restore ran properly and completed successfully.

    I'm having this same issue on win 7 x64.. but in my case i removed nod32.. still no luck.. no luck in safe mode either...

    Any thoughts
