System Restore does not work and returns the following error 0x80070005:__

"System Restore did not complete successfully, Your computer's files and settings were not changed.

Details;

System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer . Temporally disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)"

I have turned off my Zone Alarm Extreme Security software, but I get exactly the same answer.

Unfortunately the message does not tell me which file(s) are causing the problem and the error message is so vague I can't try to resolve the issue.

Firstly, I’d suggest you to uninstall the antivirus program and try to perform a system restore and check if that fixes the issue.

If the above steps do not help, try doing a system restore from safe mode and check if that works fine.

    I've had the same issue - first noticed it in 2016 and it has not worked since, no matter what I do.  No anti-virus/malware programs installed.  I turned Windows Defender off & tried in safe mode and got the same error.  The last time I fooled around with this in November 2017 I did the exact same steps but kept getting a different error.  See the two attachments.

    How can you delete  the antivirus if you can't get into your settings when your windows won't work

    I get this message ''An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)''

    when I try system restore..I don't have any anti virus software except win defender.

    and I still get this message...and no system restore.
