System Restore does not work and returns the following error 0x80070005:__

"System Restore did not complete successfully, Your computer's files and settings were not changed.

Details;

System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer . Temporally disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)"

I have turned off my Zone Alarm Extreme Security software, but I get exactly the same answer.

Unfortunately the message does not tell me which file(s) are causing the problem and the error message is so vague I can't try to resolve the issue.

Hi Rotherboy,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft answers!

Firstly, I’d suggest you to uninstall the antivirus program and try to perform a system restore and check if that fixes the issue.

Refer the link below for more on uninstalling programs:

Uninstall or change a programhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Uninstall-or-change-a-program

If the above steps do not help, try doing a system restore from safe mode and check if that works fine.

Refer the below link for more details on starting your computer in safe mode:

Start your computer in safe modehttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Let us know if this helps!

Regards,

Gokul - Microsoft Support

I have been having trouble with my mouse not working well, it jumps rather than smoothly moving.  I purchased the AVG driver updates as I figured I had a lot of out of date drivers.  It did a scan and said I had 11 drivers that need updating.  Well it started working and then my computer shut down.  Now, I cannot get it to start up, it wants to run the Startup Repair.  I have ran it about a dozen times and it cannot get any further.  If I get into the deeper boot up, it tells me it wants me to disable my antivirus, but how can I do that, if I cannot get the computer to come up?  Now I get to spend the day tomorrow iwth AVG, and have them help me get my computer back to the way it needs to be, and then get them to give me my money back on this program, as it cannot work on my machine.  Good luck to me, right??

Any help would be appreciated if you have had this problem before.  Windows 7 on an Asus computer.

This is still occurring 6 years later?  Does it not matter to anyone at Microsoft that this issue has not been fixed?  The Link at Symantec produces a 404 error, page can not be found.

I wan't to talk to the highest level of Management responsible for the Support Group.  This is beyond ridiculous. I'll bet if I didn't fix your car for 6 years, you would be really upset?  No need to answer, I know the answer.

Have Management contact me first thing Monday 7/27/2015.  I want a fix to this asap that doesn't require the client to spend hours uninstalling and reinstalling the stuff that has been on their pc's for years.  I know this took place during a Microsoft update that it began not working but I was darned near killed by a guy who rear ended me texting, so I forgot about it.Ill be expecting a response first thing in the morning.  No excuses.
