"System Restore did not complete successfully, Your computer's files and settings were not changed.

Details;

System Restore could not access a file. This is probably because an anti-virus program is running on the computer . Temporally disable your antivirus program and retry System Restore.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore, (0x80070005)"

I have turned off my Zone Alarm Extreme Security software, but I get exactly the same answer.

Unfortunately the message does not tell me which file(s) are causing the problem and the error message is so vague I can't try to resolve the issue.

Thanks for posting in Microsoft answers!

Firstly, I’d suggest you to uninstall the antivirus program and try to perform a system restore and check if that fixes the issue.

Refer the link below for more on uninstalling programs:

If the above steps do not help, try doing a system restore from safe mode and check if that works fine.

    same here - barebone 8.1 nothing but basics installed....MS AV...

    MS Sucks, i would run ubuntu if this wasnt a corp machine...

    hii.. i am having this problem too... i have tried to uninstall the AVG but when i' m unable to indicating that ' wait until the current program is uninstalling or unchanging' when there is nothing as such.

    I tried shutting down .. AVG .. and Security essentials .. ( I run BOTH )

    NO SUCCESS  .. same message

    SAFE MODE !   nothing shut down  Both antivirus running ..

    W ORKED SLICK AS SNOT!  1st try !

    TOOOOOOooooo  EASY!  ..

    I knew that ..why the hell did I not think of it .. Check the fuel gauge prior to removing the transmission !

    SUGGESTION :   "HOW could we improve it "  '???

    Simple addition ..  System has not completed due to ' 123 Wah-zoo '

    Blocking the restore point .. Close or shut down this program

                                                and THEN redo system retore

    I just ran into this problem on Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1.  I am using Avast Free 2015 with its Enable Hardware-Assisted Virtualization turned OFF.

    Going into Safe Mode and then doing the System Restore worked.

    As this problem has continued for a long time, and as System Restore is a very important feature in a crisis, MS's failure to fix this after so many years is despicable.  An insult to its pay-through-the-nose customers.
