Hi,

1.       Did you make any changes to the computer off late?

2.       Have you updated the display drivers?

3.       Do you have any games installed on the computer?

I would first suggest you to check the computer manufacturer`s website for the latest drivers available and update the same.

Games often change the screen resolution and so do some other programs. You can try performing a clean boot process to find out if there is any program or application causing this issue. Follow this Knowledge Base Article.

Note: Make sure you put the computer back to Normal Startup once troubleshooting is completed.

    "Youemailme" - THANKU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've spent the last mth trying to solve this problem and you had the correct fix for me!! And so Simple!

With me what worked were 2 things:

    (1) Perform the "clean boot process" (as per Syed N's advice above) to determine which software program was causing the problem.. and then,

    (2) Perform your instructions as above

    Whalla!!!!

Like you i also tracked & research and did heaps of hrs after hrs of work. My computer crashed & i nearly lost everything. Also called MicroSoft & HP customer support, paid for it, and they end up basically saying "we cant help you its not our fault".

In the end, wth your resolution, it was fixed in seconds (you'd think the helpdesks should know this)

    Thanku so much... you champion!

I've had a similar problem, maybe related to upgrading from Vista 64bit to Win7 64bit, but every time I'd reboot, my screen would be its normal 1920x1200 for a few seconds, then change to 640x480.  Finally tracked it down to something very simple.  Right-click on program name in Start Menu>properties>compatibility.  For some reason, there's an option to "run in 640x480 screen resolution", which was checked.  This particular program was in the startup folder, and was the cause of the problem.  If I took it out of startup, and opened it manually, it would do the same thing until I unchecked the resolution box.  Put it back in startup, and no more problem.  I know this doesn't sound exactly like your problem, but perhaps it will provide another clue.  I sure wish I could have found this explanation when I searched for help, instead of spending hours tracking it down!

    Hi,

Have you updated the display drivers to check if the problem persists?

Check if you have installed Windows Updates. To do this, follow these steps:

    1.       Click Start, All Programs and then Windows Update.

    2.       Click Check for Updates on the left of the screen.

    3.       If any updates are available, go ahead and install them.
