Windows Media Player 12: Always show list

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my computer to Windows 7.

When I was on XP, the list pane of WMP 11 was always displayed in the right part of the screen (except in full screen mode).

Now on WMP 12, I have to manually right-click and choose "Show list" each time I open WMPand each time a new video starts .

Could you tell me how to permanently display the list pane ?

There is no way to get or save the "list pane" in Windows Media Player 12. You must create a playlist to see your play list pane.

I've been playing around with this for hours trying to get the same thing your tyring to get.  Microsoft has changed alot in version Windows Media Player 12. The last version of windows media player 11 is the only version that can show the playing list pane.

    to display the "list pane" in now playing:

    back click "now playing"

    select "show list pane" from its pulldown menue

    to hide the list pane: in the ist pane, click the top right symbol of the right pointing arrow

    to redisplay the list pane: back click "now playing" then select "show list pane"

    AMEN!  You hit the NAIL right on the HEAD!  Microsoft seems to take ONE Step forward and TWO Steps BACKWARDS when they "Improve" things. How could they possibly muck something up so completely as this?  It takes real Engineering talent to do it this well!

    Incredibly frustrating indeed

    Not a single solution in 9 pages worked for me - that is to have LIST pane open when you play video playlists or single videos. Every time you open new file the list goes missing :(

    Been with WMP for many years until I decided to "upgrade" my media box to W7. I guess it's time to look for alternatives, which isn't easy when one's a creature of habit. But the habit is to always have the list pane visible and that isn't# possible any more. really, really miffed with the "improvements", alongside other "improvements" that are driving me crazy on Vista/W7

    Sorry MS, but you are on the wrong path here

    To start WMP in the Now Playing Tab you have to edit your WMP shortcuts, for us on Windows 7 64-bit it works like this:

    Default -> "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1

    Changed to -> "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Task NowPlaying

    That does the trick. Now, if we could also manage to actually keep the "Now Playing" list open when opening a new file, that would most certainly be a step forward.

    I am also growing weary of Microsofts constant need to shove their flawed "User Friendly" interfaces down their customers throats in an despirate attempt to win apple clients. Its an insult to long time users of, at one time, quality software to just remove functionality, limit interface customization and force new "INOVATIONS" on people without being given a choice. Do they really think that only pre-schoolers and the elderly will be using their operating system? Do they really think were so stupid that just seeing all those complicated doodad check boxes under an advanced section would scare everyone off!? It would be nothing complicated AT ALL to retain these options, a few lines of code. They just literally think we are too dimwitted to make these dessisions for ourselves, unless of course they were just so dimwitted themselves that they forgot the functionality of their own piece of software ... which may unfortunately be true ...
