Windows Media Player 12: Always show list
Hi everyone,
I recently updated my computer to Windows 7.
When I was on XP, the list pane of WMP 11 was always displayed in the right part of the screen (except in full screen mode).
Now on WMP 12, I have to manually right-click and choose "Show list" each time I open WMPand each time a new video starts .
Could you tell me how to permanently display the list pane ?

There is no way to get or save the "list pane" in Windows Media Player 12. You must create a playlist to see your play list pane.
I've been playing around with this for hours trying to get the same thing your tyring to get. Microsoft has changed alot in version Windows Media Player 12. The last version of windows media player 11 is the only version that can show the playing list pane.
Hi I had this same problem, except that sometimes I didn't. I have experimented and found that if you play a video to get to 'now playing' click 'show list' then play an audio file the list remains. You can then play videos without the list disappearing. :-D Problem solved though why we had to go through this I don't know.

Well, there are a few ways to work around this, but the only "solution" would be to fix the program so that the applications window behaves the way users want it to. That is what "Windows" used to be all about. Sadly, now they are so focused on mobile/tablet apps that they have forgotten how to program apps for full blown operating systems (or how to listen to feedback for that matter). This is really a simple request, and to ignore it for so long speaks volumes for MSoft's QA dept.
Solution if list pane is gone when changing movie:
This is a workaround from my part that I found helping when listpane is hidden after changing movies.
- add a mp3 file in top of your playlist then the movies you want to watch after that.
- with list pane and all files visible start your mp3 file and skip to next movie.
- list pane might be hidden again, just choose to show it again and hit mp3 file then a movie file.

For me the real solution was in that answer. It seems that as soon as you play an audio file (wma, mp3...) and show the list, it will stay for videos also until you decide to hide the list or restart WMP with a video.
My understanding is that the "Show list" option works as in previous versions of WMP as long as you play audio files. It disappears unexpectedly only when you start WMP with a video, but if you play an audio file, this can be solved for further videos.
FYI I am running Windows 8 RTM and had the same problem also before with Windows 7 (that was reinstalled several times during my computer's life) so it seems that reinstalling/upgrading Windows is not a solution for everyone. Maybe the bug depends on video card brand (I have NVIDIA, what about AMD-ATI?) or on an option that I always use and cause the problem...
