About a while ago I ran chkdsk to check and recover bad sectors and fix system files and it then froze at 43% on stage 5 of 5. I left it on through out the night and I went to school and came back it was still at 43%. I then manually shut down the computer and ever since I have been trying to fix the problem. It was the second time I ran chkdsk on this pc while having windows 7 I usually run chkdsk every month or so to make sure everything is functioning right. After my problem occured I have tried so many things i have ran spinrite,I have reinstalled windows, I have tried to run chkdsk on safe mode, I have tried sfc/scannow, and chkdsk /p and all of these things did not fix the problem. Chkdsk /p was the only thing that didnt even try to fix anything because it said invalid parameter. Also when I reinstalled windows 7 on my pc then chkdksk froze at 49% on stage 5 of 5. I even ran diagnostics from the bios and I use Seagate Seatools and both diagnostics said my hard drive was perfectly fine. I also tried running chkdsk from the windows 7 cd and for some reason it completed in less than 2 hours. I then ran chkdsk from the pc and it then froze again this made me think that there had to be something wrong with my pc. So I was wondering how can I get chkdsk to complete perfectly from my pc again instead of using the windows 7 cd each time.

Download and install SpeedFan:

SpeedFan has an online health analysis feature (SMART tab) for hard drives.
It will show how your drives compares with other drives of the same make and model.
It's typical for speedfan online report to show some S.M.A.R.T values that in the "Normal" range instead of very good.
What is more important is which if any of the values the have the words "error rate" are below "Normal".

I tried MyDefrag and dit brought my free space from 258 GB to 263 GB but then I tried check disk and it froze again and this time it froze at 45%. I don't know what to do man, do you have any more ideas? I also tried the shrink/expand thing by the ways and the amount it let me shrink the volume was a larger amount than last time. Also when i shrinked the volume I restarted the pc and the same thing when I extended the volume again. I did that to see if maybe the changes would be applied. (I'm just letting you know this extra info so maybe you can see the problem clearly and help me fix it) Please help me finally fix this problem it is driving me crazy
MyDefrag v4.2.7
Download and install using the default options.
Start MyDefrag (Formerly JKDefrag I believe)
Choose the 'Analyze only' script, select the drive and click 'Run'.
If there are no errors the choose the 'Optimize Monthly' script and run it.
(This may take a while but all your files will now be relocated to the front of the drive).
Try Check Disk again, if it still errors then you can try the Shrink/Expand again.

i have already tried that and it says my hard drive is ok. Isnt there something else I can do? I have the feeling the first suggestion you gave me has the potential to fix this problem but I think I must of done something wrong because after I shrank the volume and then extended the volume everything went fine and then I went straight to starting chkdsk /f /r. Is it possible that the reason it didnt work was because I didnt restart it or when I shrank the volume it didnt get shrinked enough...because when I did the shrink volume the hard drive basically got split in half. Was that supposed to happen?
