Cannot open ODM files in Overdrive Media Console

Hi. I am trying to listen to an Overdrive protected audio file from a

local public library. 

When I try opening the ODM file in Overdrive Media Console, for

delivery of the full media file, I get the error "Unable to aquire a license to play the selected title. The requested license is either invalid or already aquired"

 I get an other error when I try to

get the "Security Upgrade" for WMP11. 

I am using Vista 64 bit on a HP a67oof, WMP11, IE8

Overdrive media console is  16bit software so I dont know if thats why I cant get it work???

Bri-bee, I recommend you visit the following page to contact OverDrive Media Console's support, this is a 3rd party product and we are unfamiliar with its requirements to provide support:

    HoltDwyer: were you able to click the Upgrade button at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp and was the upgrade successful?

    I also suggest that you create a new thread for your issue and include as much details as possible.

    "After searching for 2 weeks for a solution I finally solved my problem abd wanted to share the answer incase anyone else was having the same problem with vista

    We apologize for the problems that you have encountered. Usually,

    resetting the DRM will solve this problem. Please try following these

    steps to accomplish that.

    ** Please note: We apologize, but this is a very involved process.

    Please make sure you take the time to follow each step carefully. **

    1. Open “Control Panel”.
    2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
    3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
    4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
    5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
    6. Click “OK”.
    7. Close the Control Panel
    8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

    C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

    1. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

    blackbox.bin

    drmstore.hds

    v3ks.bla

    v3ks.sec

    1. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
    2. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
    3. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

    I am paranoid about deleting system files, so I backed them up first, then deleted them.

    After deleting them I was able to go to the http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp

    and click the upgrade button.  It took my system a minute or two to do something after it said connecting to the server, but eventually it did continue and I was able to successfully download WMA content to the Overdrive player."

    Windows 7 users will find their "C:\Users\All Users\Application Data file locked. To work around this, instead, go to "C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
