Moving picture files around within a folder

When I try to drag and drop picture files within a folder to improve the order as I did with XP, the files return to their original location within the folder. How can I move pictures around within a folder?

Hi rustyredhead,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

You cannot manually rearrange the files/pictures by dragging within the folder in Windows 7. This change is by design in Windows 7. You can only uncheck the option to auto arrange icons on the desktop and can use it only on the desktop.

If you are referring to the Arrange by date, size, etc then you can still do that by simply Right clicking and selecting Sort by option in the drop down menu when inside the picture or file folder.

    You've had how long to remedy this debacle you left us with? We put the money in your pockets, and you can't help your consumers?

    Good thing there are other companies whose software we can use; you don't seem to care, or provide a solution.

    "You got our money, so what do you care" is the conclusion one is left due to the endless, year after year, ongoing, denied request from you.

    The only other way to drag files in a different order is to make slide shows with these files.

    I ALSO ABSOLUTELY must have the drag and drop feature within folders to function in my professional capacity.  I work with images constantly, thousands, and need to drag images into the order I need them.  With that feature disabled I will be forced to rename each picture in the order I want to resort them and then use your sort function.  

    UNACCEPTABLE  and agree some of us have developed a professional workflow that relies on capabilities you've now determined are unnecessary.  My frustration is EXTREMELY intense.  I just spent three days moving from my old computer to a new unit running Windows 7 64 bit in order to improve the functionality of my Adobe software only to find out that one of the most personally useful features in Windows has been DISABLED.  Huge kick in the REAR.  FIX IT PLEASE, ASAP or I'll need to trash my new computer with Windows 7!!!   Really????????

    Apple will take your money that's for sure, but as far as getting what you want that pretty much up to mr. jobs :)
