windows 7: Can't get HDMI audio - the hdmi device does not appear under the playback devices

so yeah you've probably gathered my problem from my title.

i have an integrated intel graphics chip (interestingly enough the intel control pane,l through which i used to control the majority of the devices functions, did not survive the upgrade... it is nowhere to be found)

so i've updated the drivers, and checked the playback devices, and my hdmi cables are plugged in

i get video but no audio, and am not sure i am just missing something simple.

eitherway i've done a lot of searching and have yet to find an answer any help would be much appreciated!

Hello spedlifeshow,

The issue here can be one of several issues, the following may apply:

  • The HDMI graphics card may support HDMI Video, but may not support HDMI Audio
  • You may need to set the HDMI audio device as the default sound device
  • You may need to update your HDMI video card drivers for your version of Windows
  • If your HDMI video card does not support audio, you may need to connect additional audio cables between the PC and TV

    Hey Zageiff, make sure your HDMI output screen is plugged in to see the device and set it as your default device, if that don't work than the only solution I can think of is your BIOS is a non HDMI-version of your computer

    nimibear, I tried what you mentioned, and still I don't se the HDMI device in the playback devices

    Intel update utility says now that I have the latest driver but no HDMI device yet

    SOLVED!

    had the very same problem, kept me me in a sorry state for long :-(

    the problem IS the driver (assuming you havn't changed a BIOS version to a non hdmi version), go to intel home page, and go to the support tab which will give you an option to operate intels' driver update utility, do that, and it should scan your system, alert and link you to the latest GRAPHICS driver download, apparantly microsoft windws update utility didn't.

    the installation installs an HDMI driver and adds an HDMI device to the list of audio output devices,

    RESTART your computer in order for the changes to take effect,

    and if needed change it to your default audio device

    use a a/v that is just the 2 audio on one side the other has headphone jack plug look at back of tv find which of your hdmi slots supports dvi to then find the right sound hook ups on the back of tv for example mine tv's hdmi 3 slot uses the 2 audio plugs from video 3 for sound its not the best in the world but lot better than computer speakers
