Cannot rip CD, cannot change album info

Since upgrading to Windows 7 this month, my Windows Media Player experience is considerably worse than it was under Vista.

I cannot rip CDs now - I get the error: "Windows Media Player cannot rip one or more tracks from the CD".

I cannot set a rip location - under the Rip Music tab in Option, the location is blank and when I click on the Change button, nothing happens. No error, no dialog, no message, nothing.

I cannot change album info - I choose the "Find album info" option, choose the album/track, click OK and nothing happens. No changes, nothing.

Please someone help...!

Thanks

G

Hi Lycra.George,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers community.

Perform sfc scan in your computer.

System File Checker(sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.

Steps to perform sfc scan:

1.      Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2.      Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.

3.      In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:

sfc /scannow

4.      You should see the following on-screen messages:

Beginning the system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

Verification % complete.

5.      Once the scan has completed you will receive an onscreen message resembling one of the following:

…  found no integrity violations

…  found corruption but repaired it

…  found corruption that it could not repair

Clear the Windows Media Player database and check if the problem persists.

To do this, follow these steps:

1.      Exit Windows Media Player.

2.      Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

3.      Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.

4.      Restart Windows Media Player.

If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

1.      Exit Windows Media Player.

2.      If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

3.      Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

4.      Restart Windows Media Player.

For more information visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925718 (This article is for windows media player 11 but also works for windows media player 12)

If the above method didn’t work then, you can try reinstalling it by following the steps below.

1.     Click on Start button and select Control Panel

2.     Click on Programs and then select Programs and Features

3.     Click Turn Windows features on or off on the left, go into the Media Features section and uncheck Windows Media Player, press OK to uninstall Windows Media Player.

4.     You may need to reboot. Afterwards go back and re-check Windows Media Player to install it once more.

Hope this information is helpful.

Let me know if this worked.

Thanks and Regards:

    Hi All

I think i found the issue, i have try all you all have every mention. i even try Fix.it

I also change registry, export form a working system and import to the failure system.

    i reinstall, everything.......

Everything that u can Googleed, i have try all cannot.

Until i stumble upon the link link, as i was trying to check if it is right issue. that is when i found multiple wmplayer.exe on my system, i click all of them.

When i run the exe in the 64bit(native ProgramFiles folder), and click manage !!!!!! i stuck gold, it works, then i check the icon in the [start] menu, they are all point to ProgramFiles(x86) !!!

Now What i do is change all my icon for all the link for media player to point to [ProgramFiles]

--- hope this help for all of you, i not sure what is the cause but it is ok as i never like ProgramFiles(x86)

    For my case:

1: "Rip music to this location" is blank

2: Click on [Organize] - [Manage Libraries] - Music/Video/Pictures/etc ---- all no response

3: Unable to add play list

4; nothing in rip music tab can be change

    ..........

The problem is the the wmplayer.exe you are running. right on the Icon u are using

I believe you are all using the icon from [All Programs]

If you run this it will sure failed

    "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1

Try the 64 bit version (it run perfectly), everything can be change

    "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1

I went through the complicated instructions and still get the same error msg.

James: I suggest that you try the instructions that I posted on March 19 (see previous page). Does that help?

One of the last suggestions I can give you is to delete the Music, Pictures and Videos library in Explorer (the actual files in the libraries will be preserved), and to then restore the default libraries. See the following article for full instructions.

    http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-error-library-ms-is-no-longer-working-windows-7

If that doesn't help either, then I'm afraid that you will have to create a new user account in Control Panel and transfer your personal files over to that account.
