Cd won't rip using Windows Media Player in windows 7

I just got Windows 7 a few weeks ago and have had no trouble until now to rip cds.

It now however shows "windows media player cannot rip one or more tracks from the cd"

I have gone into TOOLS - OPTIONS - DEVICES - DRIVE , clicked Use error connection (both playback and rip are defaulted to digital) No change

I have gone to RIP MUSIC tab and tried to slide the Audio Quality bar and/or change the rip format, but when I do I get "the settings for ripping music could not be suppied" and they reset to original settings.

I have gone into Registry Editor and deleted the low rate MP3 encoding rate and still no change - it just keeps giving me the  "windows media player cannot rip one or more tracks from the cd".

any ideas??????????

Open WMP

Go into Tools - Options - Rip Music and see if you have a location the music is being ripped to. I didn't when I looked, it was blank.

then go to Organise - Manage Libraries - Music, there should be a music folder location here, if there isn't press "add" and add the music folder.

Now do the same for the other 3 libraries, Videos, Pictures and Recorded tv, all should have locations, delete the ones without a location.

try to rip again.

hopefully like me you will be off and running again.

    1  Copying a CD file in Windows explorer will always result in a set of unplayable cda files as you have discovered.  The advice you followed was incorrect - to rip a CD's contents you need to use WMP or some other media player.

     

    2  About your Rip to location post afterwards -

    2.1  The location that needs to be checked is at Organise, Options, Rip music tab where you should see a folder identified near the top of the dialog.  There is a Change... button just to the right of this that should allow you to set the desired folder. 

    2.2  The check you mention [Organise, Manage libraries, Music] refers to the folders that WMP monitors for tracks to list in its music library.  Any problems with that might indicate that the WMP settings are corrupted [Problems such as no folders being listed or no Add... button seems to be what you are saying].

    2,3  If you could clarify what you find in both these locations and explain what happens when you try to rip a CD using WMP then I can try to help

    Hii again - the problem with your suggestion 2.1 and 2.2 is that when I go to Organize, Options, Rip Music tab there is NO folder identified and when I click on "Change" NOTHING happens.  It does not give me an option to change or add anything.   So far I have tired everything that everyone has suggested and nothing has worked for.  I've spent way toooooo much time on this already so I will now just uninstall WMP and hopefully be able to re-install it from my original software. Unfortunately Microsoft will not allow a download and installation from their web page.

    Thank you for all of your suggestions and efforts.

    Hi, I had the missing 'Rip to Location' issue. Tried for months with various solutions. In the end found the solution by going 

    into Organise (from the WMP tool bar which needs to be displayed)- Manage Libraries - Music, there should be a music folder location here, there was my music folder listed, had to remove and then press "add" to re add the music folder.

    All OK now.

    Hi I'm Lee - this didn't work for me.  I do not have the option to remove it nor do an "ADD"

    Hi!    I am using Windows 7.

    I had the same problem ripping SOME CDs. Try this:

    Cd in reader drive (obvious!).  Go to LIBRARIES,  COMPUTER,  source drive (D)

    You will see your song list . Select all.  Grab them and drag them simply to ¨My Music¨ or whatever the destination file.

    It will  ¨copy¨  them into the file in about 30 seconds.    .... looks like ripping to me ... it works!

    Hi Maurice - this didn't work for me.  The files copied over to "My Music" but they copied as "cda" type files and will NOT play.
