XBOX 360 wireless receiver won't connect to controller with Windows 7 64bit

Hello, im having a problem with a xbox 360 wireless receiver on my windows 7 64bit, i installed the software that came with the receiver and it installed fine but when i went to connect the controller with the receiver it doesnt work, i've tried it dozens of times and i have rang microsoft for help but they werent too sure. Its a official controller which came with an xbox360 and the receiver isnt microsoft but i was told from the microsoft people that some receivers are made outside of microsoft but are still fine. I'm wondering if there is a specific windows 7 receiver driver for it?

hey thanks i got it to work! so relieved. heres how you do it:

Right click on Computer

Go to Properties

Click on Device Manager

Right click on the Unidentified Device

Go to Properties

Go to the Drive tab

Click on Update Driver…

Browse my computer for driver software

Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class

Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009]

Update Driver Warning

Click Yes

i cant believe it was that simple, you dont need to download any seperate driver or anything, just follow the steps.

    Then you return your wireless receiver or try another controller and DONT FORGET to try and sync using both the sync buttons on the controller and the receiver.

    Failing that, I guess you're at a loss.  Buy a wired controller.

    It seems for the most of you having issues with this device your problem is simply driver installation issues and if that is your case then Jamesw1 post is a good solution. In my case this was not an option because I had already attempted all of those steps on different OS's and machines. When the device indicates that it is not receiving any power and you have tried multiple USB ports connected directly without hubs then the blown fuse work around is your next course of action. Keep in mind the warranty issues and safety concerns. I posted the solution that worked for me in October of 2011 and as of today September 2013 my device still works better than it ever did on all of my computers and any USB ports I connect it to.

    Tried for months downloading and reinstalling the driver, but to no avail, so I packed the receiver away, when I found it again and came here for help I was so relieved when you came up with the answer! Thanks a lot!
