Web Select Option Gone After Recent Edge Update

Thank you! I've been trying this method and even restarting my PC for the past few days, but nothing worked. Even a complete shutdown doesn't work. However, what worked for me is to kill the Microsoft Edge process from the Task Manager regardless of if you add the command line before or after you killed the process.

Now I have Web Select back both under Ctrl + Shift + S or by using it directly through Ctrl + Shift + X

There is a way to restore the Web Select feature to Edge by simply adding a command to the end of the target in the Edge shortcut's properties. Simply add a space and this text afterwards. You will need to be an admin to save your changes.

--enable-features=msEdgeAreaSelect

You may have to reboot a couple of times for it to start working so be aware of that.

This is still working for me, so thanks to Eric for unearthing the fix. The procedure is quite simple for most users:

1. Copy this black line:
   --enable-features=msEdgeAreaSelect
2. Close down Edge.
3. Right-click on the taskbar shortcut you use to launch Edge.
4. On the menu that opens above the Unpin ... command is the name of the browser and its icon. Right-click on this entry to open another menu.
5. Click on Properties.
6. The properties dialogue should open at the Shortcut tab with the Target box highlighted. press the right arrow on your keyboard ro remove the highlight and place the cursor at the end of the target.
7. Type one space, then paste the text you copied at (1). Pressing Ctrl-V should do this automatically.
8. Click Apply and OK to close the dialogue.

Test the shortcut to see whether the browser that opens includes the Web select option, e.g. by pressing Ctrl-Shift-X. If it does, well and good. It it doesn't, restarting the computer may help.

I had no idea I was so reliant on the web select feature until it was removed. I'm THRILLED to see it back as an option.

To those unaware,

1. From the EDGE Browser, select the "..." menu dots
2. Settings
3. Select "Appearance" from the menu list on the left
4. Scroll to "Customize Toolbar"
5. Locate "Web Capture Button", toggle the slide button to the right ensuring Web Capture is ON.

This will not work when text selection is impossible, as with values within adjacent rows above/below. The selection of text will include the entire row.
