New Microsoft Edge wont play HDR videos in YouTube

As the title describes, I cannot play/ see HDR YouTube videos - the option is not available any more from the resolution selection.

With previous Edge (prior to 15/01/2020) I could and I could also choose a higher resolution from my screen's native one.

I would like to point out also, that neither Chrome and Firefox provide such option - I really cannot understand why but my issue here is with Edge.

Yes, my screen is HDR capable.

I would highly appreciate any help into solving this matter.

    Indeed. Win 10 Pro, Dell XPS 15 OLED Panel (7590).

    When I wanted to see HDR youtube on my laptop last year, I used Edge. Chrome didnt support HDR natively (didnt try chrome://flags as the workaround as every Chrome update requires reinitialising amendments) so I used Edge for the sole purpose of watch HDR Youtube. Then the Microsoft Google collab occurred likely because Edge's usage fell flat on release; when the first version of that released, Edge no longer supported natively HDR on youtube.

    The results you've sent out seem blown out, so whilst the browser is decoding the content in Rec2020 (/SMTPE2084), it does not seem the the brightness and contrast are being produced/rendered correctly. I tried the same flags workaround on Edge and Chrome when Edge was first re-released this year (after deleting the old version of Edge before I knew that new one had broken HDR); whilst it is a solution, it is nowhere near an adequate one for me.

    So if there is something I want to watch on Google Play/Youtube in HDR, either I watch on TV, my android handsets or rip using a youtube ripper capable of HDR download.

    Can you confirm that on youtube, right clicking for "Stats for Nerds" the colour is bt709 or something else (prob bt2020). BT709 is SDR colour gamut.

    My question : Are YOU viewing Youtube HDR through Edge (Windows 10 - PC/laptop)  Yes or No ?

    Note: Following image shows the issue/problem (over saturated/bright) with BT2020 "forced color profile" > (sRGB or HDR 10...etc) through Chrome Beta

    no not edge. normal chrome.  edge has been able to do it- i have been using chrome 'beta' version which is able to do it for about 2 months now.  i have had a problem with youtube and the horrid layout.  i have since been around, up down , sideways gone in a circle . because youtube is determined to not let people have the old layout, so i have actually changed it back many times, for only youtube to thwart me and other people.  i have after this got hold of a fix, that i wont be giving out because every time i do youtube change things.  SO FOR ME I USE CHROME SIMPLY BECASUE OF A EASY BOOKMARKS and other app situations . however i have found for me edge ok lately. IT JUST SEEMS MICROSOFT are obsessed with mobile ads.  i use adblockplus but no good on your phone or other.
