New Edge: "Your browser is managed by your organization"

I just (06-08-2020) installed the latest Windows release and updated to the new Edge as well. When I went to change settings in the Edge browser, I noticed that my browser is all of a sudden managed by "your organization". Well, my organization is me!

Can anyone explain why I see the message "Your browser is managed by your organization" when trying to adjust settings? I did not give any permission for anyone to "manage my organization." I had this problem with Google Chrome and wound up deleting the browser altogether.

I was able to remove this by opening my Webroot SecureAnywhere Advanced Settings. Like others have said, this is something that blocks websites Webroot has identified as malicious but the steps below should remove the things in Edge you're seeing.

  1. Open the Webroot security program.
  2. Click the Advanced Settings Cog at the top right.
  3. Click Firewall / Web Shield at the left hand side.
  4. Uncheck "Activate Browser Extensions"
  5. Save
  6. Close and reopen Edge and the Extension is gone and so are those policies/management messages.

    Dear Sir,

    I have acted as per your suggestion and managed to remove that annoying “Managed by your organization”.

    The problem was that this annoying comment would disappear for a few days and reappear.

    Then a software guy suggested to me to delete the folder called “Bromium” also along with that.

    This has worked much better.

    So, the solution is to follow your advice plus delete Bromium.

    Even this can’t guarantee a permanent solution.

    It appears sporadically now a days and I do this ritual to get rid of it.

    Thank you very much for your help.

    I should have responded much earlier but waited till I got some lasting relief from this gremlin.

    @Kes_G,

    Thanks for the screenshot! On that list, 'LocalProvidersEnabled' is the closest to search engine config, but that should only be influencing the service used for auto-suggestions, not the provider for search. I was able to set this policy locally on my device and was still able to change the default search engine to Google, for example, on both Edge Stable 91.0.864.41 and Canary 93.0.915.0 via edge://settings/searchEngines.

    Can you please let me know if this is still an issue for you and if so, check whether you can see anything different in edge://policy compared to your previous screenshot?

    Sorry to hear that @nickdeamer! Have you tried looking at edge://policy (and maybe edge://management)? These should point to some info that will help determine the root cause. Also, depending on when you tried the Webroot solution that you referenced, it may take a bit for the clean up to flow to Windows registry and then on to Microsoft Edge.
