New Edge: "Your browser is managed by your organization"

I just (06-08-2020) installed the latest Windows release and updated to the new Edge as well. When I went to change settings in the Edge browser, I noticed that my browser is all of a sudden managed by "your organization". Well, my organization is me!

Can anyone explain why I see the message "Your browser is managed by your organization" when trying to adjust settings? I did not give any permission for anyone to "manage my organization." I had this problem with Google Chrome and wound up deleting the browser altogether.

I was able to remove this by opening my Webroot SecureAnywhere Advanced Settings. Like others have said, this is something that blocks websites Webroot has identified as malicious but the steps below should remove the things in Edge you're seeing.

  1. Open the Webroot security program.
  2. Click the Advanced Settings Cog at the top right.
  3. Click Firewall / Web Shield at the left hand side.
  4. Uncheck "Activate Browser Extensions"
  5. Save
  6. Close and reopen Edge and the Extension is gone and so are those policies/management messages.

    Thank you. That's a fairly mixed bag of policies; some of them prevent data being sent to Microsoft servers, some of them make searching and form-filling more difficult, but I can't spot one that would affect your ability to specify a default search engine. I would suggest that you click on each link in turn and read just what the policy does, then decide whether you want to keep it or not. The documentation for each one tells you which registry key value is involved and what that value's data should be - in most cases 0 for no (false) and 1 for yes (true). 

    Which options for search are greyed out? Another screenshot would be helpful.

    It sounds as if you didn't make any of these changes yourself, so some external agent did. It might be a program (e.g. anti-virus) on your computer, or an extension (e.g. an ad blocker) in your browser. If you don't understand the entries on the edge://policy page, post back with a screenshot of them,

    I have attached the screenshot (BELOW)

    You are correct that I did not make the changes, but a program 'O&O Shutup 10' may have.

    It is a 'problem' for me as I am unable to change the default Bing search engine to say, Google chrome.  The options are greyed out.

    I have the same problem, however I do *not* use 'Webroot'.  My AV is Kaspersky Security Cloud.  I have also used O&O Shutup 10 in the past.  Could either of these be causing the problem?

    I have this very same problem, it started on google chrome about 6 months ago and I deleted that and went over to microsoft edge, about 2 months ago. It's been working ok till I noticed tonight (22/09/2020) that the very same message has re-appeared. I also am on a home computer, not attached to work or any other organisation and it's blocking java scripts. I don't have webroot installed on my computer (to my knowledge, not something I have put on anyhow) and am not savvy enough to go through all the technical jargon relating to editing registry and whatnot. Please help an old lady with this in simple terms? Thanks in advance.

    GOOGLE CHROME:

    Press (WinKey) + R > tape: regedit > ENTER

    Remove:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Google\Chrome\Extensions\ckjefchnfjhjfedoccjbhjpbncimppeg

    RESTART!
