Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.

I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.

I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.

I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.

I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.

I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.

I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website.  This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

Sno fix, Still to take them to our local complaints tribunal. I have spoken and made a formal complaint with Australian Consumer Affairs and they have advised me will keep a track on further complaints to see whether it is an issue for them; the sad part is a lot of people experiencing the problem may think it is their fault. Meanwhile I've purchased a non-microsoft computer, plus an additional keyboard. Unfortunately still using Microsoft Products. Not sure that I am up to learning how to use Linux but Google I could easily manage - just for the next year I won't have much access to the internet which can be an issue with google products.(meanwhile I also keep the Surface Pro on with updates in the hope that MS will issue a fix)

What happened with your sp3, now? I have sames issues.

My sp3 with phantom touch, ghost. So I have to disable with HID compliant touch screen to use as latop not touch screen.

After update windows 1809, not connect type cover ( sp3 & type pro 4 nêw) not find connect. Recover with usb, stopped in "American" because need type cover work to press "esc," to continue.  Now badly, because not working with type cover, badly. I hate microsoft, not how to fix, any update to break old device, same ios apple.

Didn't work for me either. This morning I took first steps to take the matter to our consumer affairs authority and then to our State Consumer Court system. I've already purchased a Bluetooth keyboard but it's the principal. Microsoft are "stealing" by making our hardware redundant.  If you know someone you could swap a touch key cover with it will work on your machine and yours will work on their machine. Crazy. I tried this in the shop where I purchased. Unfortunately I don't know anyone else with a Surface Pro)

OK, I decided to bite the bullet and try a scorched earth approach.  I did a complete restore formatting the drives from an image a year ago when the type cover was working.

    As expected this also failed.

I have also tried a known good type cover from another system and my system still does not see it.

If anyone from the Microsoft hardware group is reading this I would love the hear from you.  I would be willing to work with you to resolve this issue.

Just reply to this thread and we can work out the logistics.

It is a firmware issue as BIOS does not even recognize the type cover keyboard.  I have also taken the scorched earth approach to no avail.
