Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.

I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.

I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.

I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.

I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.

I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.

I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website.  This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds good, although a little too simple. I could not recreate it but I could be just doing it wrong so:

Do you still have Hibernation activated instead of sleep mode?

Do you have it turned on or turned off/in hibernation when plugging it in, removing cover, removing charger, connecting cover?

Or most importantly, are you still able to do so?

And one last question, does the type cover work for you in the BIOS? :)

I've been dealing with this issue since December as well. I have tried all the suggestions on this forum and others and the only fix has been to let the battery drain completely and wait before trying again.

That was until today. I decided to completely disable my SP3 from going to sleep and use hibernate at the alternative and this seemed to be working for about 24 hours (I could shutdown or hibernate the computer and turn on, etc. with no known issues). Then, I decided to try and plug in my old type cover keyboard, sure enough the issue was back.

After some thought, I decided to try and short the two far right pins on the bottom of the SP3 to see if that would do anything. It did not. However, I did stumble upon a possible fix which I have been able to recreate the issue over and over again.

I need to verify with someone else if this process works...

If your SP3 is not plugged in, please plug it in.

    1. Unplug the non-working keyboard.
    2. Disconnect the power cable.
    3. Plug the keyboard back in with the power disconnected. If it works properly you should be able to turn the Caps Lock on and the button will light up.

Someone please let me know if you have any luck with this as I've been wracking my brain on it for months and I'm hoping that this may actually be a "fix," if you want to call it that.
