For some reason my new Surface is shutting off randomly. I check the setting and a few other things but it's still randomly turns off without warning. I'm losing some of my school work because of it. Is anyone else having this problem?

As of 7/14, the fix for this issue has completed testing and is now live, please go update your Surface Pro via Windows Update to get the latest download. You can obtain this fix by checking Settings> Update & security > Windows Update
The Surface Pro Update History page has been updated with the details of this release and the update is also available on the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page as part of the MSI installation package available for download.

I bought a new Surface Pro two days ago, get the same problem here. Very frustrating.
Update: My problem is different from many here so I opened a new question called Surface Pro 2017 with i7 overheating under high CPU loads (both Utilization and Speed) Probably best to ignore this...
I ran some more tests today. I have both the Surface Pro 4 and new Surface Pro (2017). Both with the i7/512GB/16GB configuration.
Surface Pro 2017
I ran the tests again with the Real Temp GT 3.7 running and watched the temperature jump from 45°C to 100°C and then shut down as the Utilization was 100% and the speed 3.77GHz. Everything I've read says that the Surface Pro 2017 with i7 has a fan. I listened very closely and never heard the fan turn on. (Ear firmly on the machine)
Surface Pro 4
Same Visual Studio solution, the CPU jumped up to 100% Utilization and Speed of 3.20GHz, but I could hear the fan kick in and the temp never got above about 72°C. It took 4 min 10 sec for all the tests to run. It did take the machine a while to cool back down to about 40°C and you could eventually hear the fan turn off.
Questions that came to my mind:
Is there a fan?
Is the OS/Drivers/Firmware not causing it to engage?
I also have this problem, SP i7 16 512, had it for 5 days, did the Windows Cumulative update last night and today at work, using Chrome, it just hibernated and I had to wake it up and wait for it to come back.
Rubbish. Will have to send it back if this isn't fixed in the next few days.

I've already returned mine, and reluctantly ordered a new iPad and a new laptop from another vendor. I was in the market for both a new tablet and a new laptop, and I thought the Surface Pro would have been the perfect thing for me, serving as both devices. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, as I don't have the patience to deal with these issues while Microsoft and/or Intel work out their glitches with this. (Hearing how previous generations of the Surface devices has issues and how long it took for them to be addressed -- several months -- really influenced my decision.)
