My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?

    Emma

I saw your response to this issue last week and as I had a few minutes this morning I pulled together the threads that worked for me. It is all in the post but is lost due to multiple threads

See below (make sure you read to the end before starting) and good luck

In reply to MatthewFlora's post on July 25, 2018

I got it working in the end , kind of anyway .... I had to do the = battery drain to get it to function again , a link here on how to do it =

    • you have to drain it down so that it cannot function anymore , at = initial startup you should see the white battery low icon , now attach = the cover and plug in the charger.=20

After that it worked , but just this week i turned it on and again , the = Type cover was not recognised , no drivers , not showing in devices ... = nothing. So I started to go through the whole thing again ... drain the = battery down , it was showing 7 hours battery life left with nothing = running .. so I fired up a video editing program to try and tire it out = .... well , I left it doing stuff and then suddenly out of the corner of = my eye I see the type cover light up !

    completely random , I hadn't done anything ... just happened .... weird = !

so although it is working it is still completely unreliable , if I was = working and this happened , I would have to wait to drain that thing = right down .... which can take hours !

So , Definitely a ghost in the machine , perhaps an exorcism might work = !

Try the battery drain and see if that helps , it works for some , but = not for others=20

    My post of 25 July

I tried your suggested repair and it did not work initially so I immediately disconnected the charger and let it drain down again - from only around 7-8%

When I tried the next time I was much more particular at following your precise instruction i.e. "at initial startup you should see the white = battery low icon , now attach the cover and plug in the charger"

I must say this was very halfheartedly because when I had tried before on several occasions it had not worked. Each time I had done the 3 actions but perhaps the cover had been attached before I turned on or I attached the charger first in order to get the surface to start - I had never considered the order important

    SURPRISE, SURPRISE  - SUCCESS!!!

This has now worked for 3 days without problem - long may it continue

    As of today 17 December

This has now worked continuously since July even with a number of = updates

I'd suggest contacting the executives listed below individually , clearly stating the problems that you have regarding the non functional type covers after updates. It's important not to give up in getting the issue resolved , don't be put off by negative replies from anyone on this list or anyone quoting you warranty periods and saying they can't help you any further. If you believe the loss of your type cover was due to a Microsoft update , get ALL the information laid out clearly with the chronology and update numbers , don't give up , out of warranty or not. Contact these people individually with your complaint , not as CC's.

The original post stands for August 2017. 14 months ago.

It's unbelievable the amount of people that are facing such an issue.

Its an expensive hardware that its now completely useless. The type cover is essential to anyone using Surface Pro.

I lost completely my faith that Microsoft will ever come back to us on this. I do have a new Surface Pro 4 and it works.

But I am definitely not getting the Pro 6.

    Thanks,

    Henrique

I spoke to a Microsoft trade-in partner. He suspect it's due to motherboard, which I believe it is caused by firmware updates, since the symptoms are the same for us. But, Microsoft support team does not think it's due to updates, as their support website says no issues found. This is so frustrating. I think whoever is affected by this same issue should voice out at Microsoft social media platform (eg. Instagram, FB, etc..), so that the support team can focus and quickly resolve this issue for all of us.

I've tried with Twitter, just to be ignored!
