The problem described on this thread is related to firmware update on motherboard causing the connector on SP3 itself not being responsive after update. Which version of type cover is irrelevant. (Say, if you have broken USB port so nothing plugging in there will be detected, you can be sure whatever you plug in there will not be detected no matter it's flash drive, keyboard or mouse, and no matter what model it is).
Type Cover not Working but ...
My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?
Surface | Surface Pro | Power and battery

2019-02-14T02:08:45+00:00 First of all sorry for my english, I'm a foreigner but I hope to explain well.I also have the same problems, both with the keyboard and with the pen. Is there anyone in this discussion who tried to connect a new type cover (last model) or new surface pen to your computer? What I want to understand is: is it a problem with the firmware related to the old versions of keyboard and surface pen or related to all versions of type cover and surface pen?

2019-02-13T10:05:57+00:00 I posted the Email address list some time back , i’m glad its proved useful for some.
My surface pro 3 had this probem and was just out of warranty, i persisted in my claim and eventually recieved a replacement Surface Pro at no charge.
It took some time , but when an escalation rep took up my case , i was persistant and it all went well , i even received a ‘genuine’ phone call from Microsoft ... imagine that ! .... “Hello this is Microsoft” .... didnt believe it at first untill he gave his name, then realised it was genuine.
so far so good , its now only the Pen from the old surface 3 that doesn’t work ... nevermind ....
good luck to all and don’t give up

Thanks!
Hi Jim, apologies for the delay in response. The email addresses I contacted are as follows:-
I found these at this location:-
https://www.elliott.org/company-contacts/microsoft/
Whilst I didn't hear back directly from any of them, I did hear back from 'Case Manager Re-Escalations' same day.
Hope this helps.
