My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?

I've had this exact same problem with my surface pro 3. Funny thing is I still bought a 4 (and love it). I use my surface pro 3 as a tablet for exercise but keyboard still doesn't work. This is either some strange driver issue or hardware. Can't decide which, but tired of fooling with it after 2 years.

SP 3 in US with same problem. I do IT for a large state University and can't recommend MS hardware after this.
I have the same issue with a non responsive keyboard. I am in a position to advise clients on what devices to purchase. I WOULD NOT advise anyone to purchase a Microsoft Surface product. Microsoft is missing the big picture on this one.
I have spoken to the Office of Fair Trading in Australia. I would suggest, if you're in Australia and suffering with this Type Cover issue, to do the same.
