I have the exact same problem as JohnnyFranzen. Same power up issue. left my Pro 3 for a long while off charge. Would not start. plug in charger, charge light blinked for 3 days then came on steady. All worked well. Then out of the blue the keyboard stopped working. Found that if the battery is allowed to run flat and do a restart the keyboard works. pug in the charger and the keyboard will stop working.
After the blinking charger issue there was a bunch of updates loaded.
I do not agree with Barb Bowman, This is not a "Hardware" issue. There is no driver present in the device manager for the Type Cover.
I do agree with JohnnyFranzen, firmware issue.
MS cannot upload bugs and then walk away. We need help here.

One year later no solution and et each update more user affected by this issue.

Sadly, Microsoft has ignored the typecover not working issue since the beginning
and is only doing standard trouble shooting for battery issues.

2018-09-18T02:03:26+00:00 The keyboard cover of my SP4 stopped working on 14 September 2018 IMMEDIATELY AFTER a Windows update.
That day, I initially turned the device on... keyboard working.... I manually clicked 'Install Updates' and watched it install firmware and a few patches.... the keyboard no longer works.
This is definitely NOT a hardware fault - unless Microsoft are saying that our devices are running older hardware which is no longer supported?
Or, playing devil's advocate here, is it a ruse to generate revenue by making devices appear to be defective?
I will add, that there is no device driver listed in Device Manager for the cover keyboard.
Location: Australia.
Remedial Actions: As per many suggestions, hard reset, running diagnostic tools, reloading drivers from MS Website etc.
