Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    I have been dealing with this issue for a number of weeks now. It does not seem to be linked to the Creators update in my case. I have the gen 2 pen where it is a single hidden button on the flat edge and comes with the clip. 

    After several hours of non use, or hibernating and re-awakening the SurfaceBook with performance base causes the pen to no longer write on the screen. The eraser button still works to launch Onenote and take a screenshot. The pen is still shown as paired and connected. 

    As another user pointed out, multi-touch is not available when the Surface is in this state. I believe something here is linked. Unfortunately, for me disabling and re-enabling the Intel Precise Touch Device does nothing. The only way I can get the pen working again is to restart the Surface. 

    Exactly the same for me.

    disable hibernate as a temp work around. run powershell as an admin and run this command 

    powercfg.exe /hibernate off

    Thanks for the reply, but no, this does not fix my problem.I'm using a 2016 Surface Book. I've had this issue since i bought the laptop. Multi-touch and the pen tip (Bluetooth button still works and the pen is still paired) stop working after around 30

    minutes of heavy pen use. Only way to fix it for me is to restart, which is very annoying in the middle of a lecture or a math problem. Im going to try JoseSusa's fix and report on it. I also downgraded to my previous build, but it probably wont fix it since

    it was doing it prior to the Creators Fall Update...

    Same here!!
