Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

    https://www.change.org/p/microsoft-microsoft-to-take-responsibility-for-dead-surface-type-covers

Hi there, I had made a report to Microsoft on 25th Nov 2017. The service tech remotely control my laptop and concluded its a hardware failure. I was devastated as this Surface is supposedly one of the best hardware out there and now it just decided to fail me by refusing to work with the type cover.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), this type cover problem happened to so many people out there during that period of time. And I was convinced its not a hardware issue due to the numerous report of users having their type cover not serviceable after an update.

Hoping for an update from MS on this, i waited for a year. I called the helpline again and this time round, I was given an option of making an exchange at a price of SGD$638. I find it ridiculous. >_<

In lieu of the current situation, I have started a petition (link is above). I hope Microsoft can take notice and respond immediately to this issue. Pls support and hopefully we can exert some form of media pressure on Microsoft to take action. 😡

I work IT for a hospital. Our maintenance department uses these Surface Pro 3's. I have three of them sitting in front of me at the moment, all purchased at the same time. Two of them have keyboards which will not function on their respective tablets, and the other works fine. I can take the keyboards from the two systems which don't work, put them on the third system, AND THEY WORK JUST FINE.

THIS IS NOT A KEYBOARD HARDWARE ISSUE.

The problem is that the two systems which don't work do not have the “Surface Type Cover Filter Device” driver installed. The device doesn't show up anywhere in the Device Manager. I have spent the past week trying to figure out how to get the appropriate driver. The two affected systems have been fully updated according to Windows Update. I have searched all over the internet trying to find the driver so I can install it manually. I can't find anything. I have tried the "two-button restart" method, and it doesn't work. I have tried a factory recovery. This does not solve the problem. The keyboards are completely useless, even though they will work fine on the one system.

This is a known problem. It seems there have been HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of people with this problem. I do not understand why Microsoft has not provided a fix for this. At this point, I am going to strongly recommend to my colleagues in the IT Department that we not be purchasing ANY additional tablet PCs from Microsoft. This is absolutely inexcusable.

MICROSOFT: GIVE ME ACCESS TO THE APPROPRIATE DRIVER FOR THIS KEYBOARD.

DO NOT ASK ME TO TAKE THESE UNITS TO A MICROSOFT STORE. THERE ARE NONE ANYWHERE NEAR ME.

DO NOT ASK ME TO PAY YOU ANYTHING MORE. WE PURCHASED AT LEAST 6 OF THESE UNITS, AND EXPECT THEM TO WORK.

Going on a month or two with this issue and like so many others here, I have tried everything i can find to try to no avail. My cover works on my gf's surface just fine, but neither hers nor mine works on my surface. I am just lucky that i have a desktop i can use primarily.

Extremely disappointing and frustrating. I usually try and support Microsoft but this is just such a terrible long lasting issue

I use my Surface Pro 3 occasionally, but when I need it, I really need it. I really needed it on the 13th November so I did a lot of outstanding updates a few days prior.

And instantly my type cover stopped working. I have read this thread carefully and there seems to be little point in nuking my OS because it hasn't worked for other people. The fault is with MS and they don't care. This is a hugely expensive i7 Surface Pro and I am livid.

There is zero chance I will ever buy another MS product.
