Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.
I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.
If anyone come across, this, please help.

I had called the MS helpline. The technician helped to check on my Surface Pro 4 (remotely) and concluded that the problem lies in the magnetic strip ON my surface device itself.
My type cover works well with other surface devices but other type cover can't work on mine, hence the conclusion.
I'm not 100% sure of this conclusion as I had done a factory reset few days back and the type cover somehow worked! Unfortunately, it's only for a short while as it went back to an undetected state after I had off the surface and switching it on again hours later.
The cost of repairing quoted by the technician is SGD$648 (at least). Really inching closer to getting a ipad pro after this episode. =(
ms support is very bad and very slow to fix a problem .i will tell everyone i know

Hi,
In many cases, downloading and installing the latest updates for Windows and your Surface will fix the issue. To see how, go to Install Surface and Windows updates. If you have already done this, please follow below mentioned link and follow the steps:
Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard
Method 1: Reboot your Surface
There may be corruption issues on your operating system that result in your keyboard issue. So you need to reboot your Surface to clear these issues. To do so:
If this method works for you, you will be able to use your keyboard now.
Method 2: Perform a two button shutdown
There may be corruption issues on your hardware of your tablet that lead to your keyboard issue, and a simple restart is not enough to get rid of them. You need to perform a two button shutdown or force a shutdown to turn off your tablet completely.
You can perform a two button shutdown only if you are using a Surface Pro and Surface Book. To do so:
* For Surface 3, 2 or RT, you need to force a shutdown instead:
Press and hold the power button of your device and release it after 10 seconds. Then power on your device to see if this method works.
Method 3: Update or reinstall your driver
The keyboard of your Surface may fail to work if you are using the wrong keyboard driver or it is out of date. So you should update or reinstall your driver to see if it fixes the problem.
