I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.
I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.
If anyone come across, this, please help.

In many cases, downloading and installing the latest updates for Windows and your Surface will fix the issue. If you have already done this, please follow the rest of the steps in our Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard article. You can also run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit to check for possible software issues.

In August my keyboard also stopped working.

I have SP3 and experianced same problem, after some updates sometimes in Auguest, my type cover stopped working, I can not see drivers for type cover in device manager either. i purchased new cover few days ago and it worked for a day and suddenly stoiped working last night, i could some flickering on screen, but nothing long enough to take screen shot. again type cover is not responding it is also not visible in device manager.
My problem seems to have resolved itself..... it has been fine for a few days now.
I'm not sure what sorted it, other than possibly a windows update?

I know this sounds like a bad advertisement but I had a similar problem since installation of creators update. I own a Surface Pro 4 and have always had a love affair with it until my keyboard stopped working. After several months of manually updating drivers, constantly checking for updates and installing anything that came along without any success, trying every tip found, I was ready to jump ship on the OS. I decided to download a driver update program. I have used them long ago with windows 7 and before purchasing my beloved Surface. They were always marginally successful in solving problems. This time I downloaded and installed a program called "Driver Booster". Apparently 22 drivers required updating, the vast majority of them Microsoft drivers which I had always assumed were updated automatically through the automated windows update process. Apprehensively and at the end of my rope, I installed them one at a time in fear of bricking my surface and testing boot-up after each install. They all installed successfully and low and behold, my keyboard now works! I have no idea which driver it was that corrected the issue but after many months, I have my old Surface back.
The software was on sale and cost me around 20 CDN but was well worth it. I don't know if it will fix your problem or not but I thought that I would share.
