Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

so just to be clear, you have a SP4 and NOT a SP3, correct? and SP3 typecovers

    work but not SP4 typecovers?

    >>Conclusion is that all the SP4 type covers that I tried are not working on my surface, and the SP3 type cover is working, and the SP4 Type cover I have is working on the other surface devices perfectly.

Dear Barb, I hope all is good on your side, so the weirdest thing happened. I have been testing other surface type cover and actually I tried 2 other type covers.

1^st^ was a surface 3 type cover and it worked properly on my device(I am typing using it right now), and my “not working” type cover worked perfectly fine on his SP3.

2^nd^ was a surface 4 type cover, it didnt work on my Surface, yet it works on my colleague`s SP3, and even my “not working” type cover worked on his.

Conclusion is that all the SP4 type covers that I tried are not working on my surface, and the SP3 type cover is working, and the SP4 Type cover I have is working on the other surface devices perfectly.

Please let me know your feedback 😊

    Thanks,

    Omar Islam

This has been an annoying issue and I thought the typecover hardware is faulty after 14 months- It's NOT. And I have been following this thread for over a week and read all the possible solutions that the members shared. Thank you for everyone who chipped in their thoughts.

However the issue is solved (again) this morning as I am typing on my Typecover (SP4). I am not sure what I did correctly but here is a summary.

    1. I did a factory reset to my SP4 about 4 days ago, some of the members said it works (but not to me immediately). Plug in/out, Windows Updates, and Shut down/Restart- The typecover doesn't respond.
    2. I did the UEFI menu (long press Power + Volume UP button after shut down)- Device Section - Typecover Port ON/OFF for several times over a few days- The typecover doesn't respond.
    3. Almost giving up, I plugged my typecover to my SP4 yesterday night before I go to bed (battery level slightly below 90%). This morning my battery drained to 66% when I start up, there is a message that my typecover driver was updated. AND then I realized my typecover is back to function. (I am not sure for how long this time before it's gone again)

I love my SP4 (and the stylus pen), but I find it unreliable when it come to serious work. First the short-freeze issue every now and then (with Intel graphic driver solved this issue), following with the typecover driver malfunction this time. I have not find the solution for battery draining in SHUT DOWN stage overnight (20~30%).
