This would seem to indicate that the contacts are being worn down or somehow deformed, causing them to not make good contact. Why can't Microsoft show that this is the case and address the problem if this truly is a hardware issue of this nature?
Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working
I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.
I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.
If anyone come across, this, please help.

2018-11-23T18:25:28+00:00 https://www.change.org/p/microsoft-microsoft-to-take-responsibility-for-dead-surface-type-covers
Hi there, I had made a report to Microsoft on 25th Nov 2017. The service tech remotely control my laptop and concluded its a hardware failure. I was devastated as this Surface is supposedly one of the best hardware out there and now it just decided to fail me by refusing to work with the type cover.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), this type cover problem happened to so many people out there during that period of time. And I was convinced its not a hardware issue due to the numerous report of users having their type cover not serviceable after an update.
Hoping for an update from MS on this, i waited for a year. I called the helpline again and this time round, I was given an option of making an exchange at a price of SGD$638. I find it ridiculous. >_<
In lieu of the current situation, I have started a petition (link is above). I hope Microsoft can take notice and respond immediately to this issue. Pls support and hopefully we can exert some form of media pressure on Microsoft to take action. 😡

2018-11-07T21:20:09+00:00 I have now raised this issue with the ACCC in Australia, and I'll keep pestering them until they investigate Microsoft's silence on the issue. In a couple of weeks, if I've heard nothing, I'll follow up with phone calls and a submission to the Office of Fair Trading.
My suggestion is, to anyone in Australia suffering the same issue, to do the same.

2018-06-17T03:12:03+00:00 Microsoft support,
Just to be clear, this problem has not been adequately addressed. A core funtionality of hundreds, if not thousands of your products has been rendered inoperational. This clearly is not user error. We should not have to pay for out of warranty replacements. Nearly a year sinse this topic began...and still no (actual) help? Restarts, shutdowns, reinstalls, uninstalls, drivers, firmware, Microsoft Updates...the list goes on but none of your suggestions have fixed the problem. You are just giving us the run around. It is a really terrible way to treat people who supported, paid for, and rely upon your products. Please fix this.

2017-07-25T02:52:57+00:00 Heard from my contact. He said
"
Can you ask them what OS they are running? 14393(RS1) or 15063(RS2)
If RS2 can you ask them to install
If running RS2 install this, SurfacePro4_Win10_15063_1702001_0.msi
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498 and see if it changes anything
"
to check the Windows 10 version, run
winver
Tell him this did not work. Please help!
