Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

    ...................

Mine is still dead. I go through the various dances from time to time, and I live in hope with each firmware upgrade ... but I'm resigned to the fact its a goner :-(

The "various dances" seems to be the thing.

After having somehow magically restored my keyboard a couple or more months ago, and then never closing the cover when moving location (which isn't the point of a tablet...) so as not to jeopardise things, suddenly this evening it wouldn't light up.

I "did all the dances" to no avail.

Then on the notification board I noticed that rotation lock was "on", which was odd...  On instinct I tapped "Tablet mode" on, and then off again, and suddenly the keyboard lit up!

I have no idea if it was just coincidence or not.

Anyway, my old HP laptop which was dead is now back in use - I put in a new hard disk and installed Ubuntu, and will use that as my 'home' computer now.

I've recently retired and now rarely take a computer when travelling, but I will buy a cheap tablet for journeys where I want to access entertainment, etc.

I've worked out how to 'speak' to my mobile phone, so I dictate texts, emails, etc. to it now, when I'm out and about.

My Surface actually has an extended warranty which is still in force, but at the moment I don't have the energy to do attempt replacing it.  If I feel up to it later this year I'll follow it up...

I tried with SP3 cover, didnt work for me. Haiz. =(

Disgusted with MS’s response (or rather lack of) to this disastrous situation.

In lieu of the current situation, I have started a petition. I hope Microsoft can take notice and respond immediately to this issue. Pls support and hopefully we csn exert some form of media pressure on Microsoft to take actuon. 😡

The problem is NOT a missing driver, but a missing connection between te Surface a nd the Type Cover. As soon as that connection is established, the right driver name (Surface Type Cover Filter Device) appears in the Device Manager. Once you disconnect the Type Cover, this driver name dissappears again. (Same with an external keyboard, if you can prove yourselves). So don't worry about this driver as long as you find this 2 drivers in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers: kbclass.sys and kbhid.sys.

The great myistery is: why there is no connection? Why the Surface doesn't recognize the Type Cover???

I still believe a class action lawsuit against Micro$haft is appropriate here. Unfortunately, I am not the owner of the Surface Pros I have encountered with this problem, and my employer has just decided to not have anything more to do with these devices, although we aren't taking them out of service. Once they become completely unusable, they won't be replaced by another Micro$haft tablet. Micro$haft got their money, and they clearly do not care that all of these users are having this problem.

It should not be up to the end user to try to find some old generation type cover to try to fix the problem.
