Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

How are you sure that the update can fix it, it has been months for some people without a fix. The surface diagnostic toolkit doesn't find anything wrong with it.

4 months later and my SP4 is still broken.  Keyboard not working.

I'm getting serious ear ache from my wife as she uses it more than me.  Looks like I'll have to fork out for another device.  Considering the Surface Laptop as my wife doesn't detach the keyboard that often / at all but I'm not sure I trust Microsoft after this.

they want you to try the following:

    "

    1. Check Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and ensure that Filter Keys is Disabled
    2. Check BIOS and make sure Type Cover is enabled in Devices
    3. In Device Manager, click on the view menu > Show Hidden
    4. Under HID (Human Interface Devices), scroll down and find Surface Pro 4 Typecover Integration > Right-Click - Uninstall (I chose the tick to delete driver/software)
    5. In Device Manager, under Keyboard, if you do not see the type cover, no need to do anything else, if you do see it, right-click, uninstall (check to remove software)
    6. Shut down (Hold shift for a clean shut down)
    7. Hold Power and Volume UP for 30 seconds - the device will flash to EFI and back until it eventually powers off fully.
    8. Power on the device - now the keyboard should work, and all the drivers should be re-installed that we removed earlier.

Johnny, you have previously stated you have a Surface Pro 3 and you've been

    advised previously (several times):

"Johnny - in each of the 8+ threads you've reported your issue, which you state

is on a Surface PRO 3 and not a SP4 or Surface 3 (non Pro), we've explained to

you that the issue you are experiencing is specific to your Surface Pro 3 - it

is not tied to the issue that some SP4 owners have reported and it isn't the

same as the one in THIS thread.

You need to exchange your Surface if you completely reimaged with a released

version of Windows from a downloadable recovery image and still have issues

(this has been explained to you in all the other threads). You've stated you are

running Insider Builds in another thread "I am insider, I installed the last

update of the insider for this, and nothing solved."

I understand that you live in an unsupported country and you need to find

someone in a supported country to handle the exchange for you and that person

will need to pay for the refurb and you will need to reimburse that person.

    "

    >>Battery draining mine is also. If I leave the Type Cover even if it is not working.

Oddly after having my surface switched off for a few days, (as its pretty useless to me at the moment) I fired it up and the keyboard switched on....

There appeared to be an embedded controller update as well as a keyboard driver update. I leave the surface alone for 20mins and it goes to sleep and boots up again with a click of the touch pad.  Great, I think! I then proceed to shut the keyboard and the surface goes to sleep.... however upon wake up the keyboard doesn't work again!

This is so frustrating. I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have to abandon it totally soon as its affecting my productivity.
