Surface Book 2 battery drain whilst off

The battery drain on Surface Book 2 is due to the new hybrid shutdown mechanism used in these devices, which keeps the core of the operating system in RAM while the computer is turned off to provide the fast boot function. This feature, along with a new connected standby state, are new features built into surface devices.

To prevent the system from shutting down using hybrid shutdown, you can press the Shift key while selecting the shutdown option from the start menu.

It's admirable that you have been seeking an answer with such dedication. But I remain convinced that there is no solution, because this issue is clearly due to an engineering fault, and Microsoft don't want to admit it. After almost 8 pages of discussion, the clues have become too obvious to just be dismissed as mere coincidence. My Surface is working well, but the battery drain is still there: nothing has changed, nothing will.

Well my SB2 wakes on by itself. I have witnessed that many times and probably that is the reason of the battery drain. It some times power up in the bag, heating up because of no airflow. Sometimes I wake up at night and see it powers on for no reason. There definitely something very nasty and the fact that Microsoft does nit even bother responding about this issue any more. This is a deal breaker for me when I think about investing my money and resources in Neo and Duo.

I have the same issue. I bought my Surface Book 2 in mid 2018 and used it for office work at start. I used to have like 8h+ battery life at start, so I could use it at office without charging for a day.

However, since then I have been mostly using it at home and started to realize that the battery drains while it is totally shut down too. Today, I tried to start it after one week of shut down and the battery was nil. I couldn't start it without keeping the charger connected for some time. Even after connecting the charger, the first time I started, I could log in but then suddenly battery died.

This is a serious issue and I would be grateful if someone from Microsoft can respond and say what they are going to do about it?

I have had a Surface Book 2 for 9 months now. It drains 5-10% battery whilst switched off every day. I know this is a common complaint, yet why is it an issue on a $4000AUD laptop?

Can I return it for a refund as it does not meet my needs?

I have the same problem with my device. I only just noticed it recently as I normally power my device off am typically studying. Now, I've noticed that in sleep mode the battery drains overnight. Microsoft, this is one of your most expensive laptops, it's unbecoming of you to remain silent amidst 67 complaints!

In Sleep Mode the PC is still on so it will use power at a slightly reduced level. Sleep Mode is intended for short term use such as taking a lunch break. For a longer period or overnight use Hibernate or shut down the PC.

The problem with the Surface Book using power while completely shut down is another issue.
