Surface Book 2 battery drain whilst off

I have had a Surface Book 2 for 9 months now. It drains 5-10% battery whilst switched off every day. I know this is a common complaint, yet why is it an issue on a $4000AUD laptop?

Can I return it for a refund as it does not meet my needs?

    You assume correctly.

I'm cynical, I know. But I refuse to believe that a defect as blatant as this could make it through testing. I'm still convinced that it would be relatively easy to fix, if only they had the will / interest.

Thanks for the fast reply. My Surface Book hasn't been off for more than a couple hours at a time so I haven't seen the problem.

It shouldn't be very hard for Microsoft to see which circuits are powered in the off state. One has to assume they don't want to talk about it.

I have a surface tablet as well and I use it once a week or so. Every time I use it, the battery is flat and I will charge it full then perform a proper shutdown after using it.

Some component is still draining power when the device is off.

Again, you are correct. I will think this through thoroughly. On one hand I need the device to study; on the other, Microsoft must be punished for this irresponsible behaviour, bordering on dishonesty. I have already requested a substitute for my first Surface (it had a faulty monitor in addition to the battery drain issue), and I'm not sure I would get a refund if I returned the second one, since it is not the original, but a refurbished one.

There are many other 2 and 1 out there like lenovo and others. Microsoft pray that people need the Surface once they get them and are forced to deal with the defective units. I also had purchased the Surface just to use for writing my dissertation  and doing research. If you are going to make a stand i would return it or they still win.
