Word 2016 always open in Side to Side view, even after changing it to Vertical view.

Recently, my Word 2016 had defaulted to scrolling between document pages side-to-side rather than vertically. I keep changing (under the View tab) the "page movement" to vertical, but each time I re-open Word, it defaults to side-to-side (see picture).

I don't understand why the sudden change, nor why Word won't "save" the last setting I have it on. Is there anyway to change the default to vertical and keep it that way?

I had the same problem. You just need to add the key.

Exit out of Word.

In Regedit, find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word'

Add the key 'Last View', then in there add a D-Word 'WordViewStateUsePageStackArrangement', leave the value as the default (zero).

Restart Word.

Worked for me.

    Thanks, Stefan. Looks like I have the same release as you do.

    As far as issues go, this is really minor so I appreciate your responding. I can certainly live with it, but I found it curious - especially since it doesn't seem to affect all users. As far as I can tell, just the original poster and me!  :)

    That is not the behavior I see on my installation of Word 2016: If I click Vertical and exit Word, Vertical remains activated.

    Which is your specific release of Word? Click File | Account and look under "Office Updates."

    Note that both Vertical and Side To Side are new options in Office 2016. Assuming that the options are indeed saved to the registry, deleting the registry keys for Word may fix the problem on your system.

    Note that I'm not sure which registry entries are relevant. I'll see if I can find out.

    Thank you, but that wasn't it. It happens with only one document open. I've tried old documents that were created in an older version of Word as well as creating new ones. Can't get that vertical view to stick at all since installing Office 2016.
