Surface Pro 4, Screen Flickering, Shaking

The issue appears to be related to a thermal condition due to elevated internal temperatures during more demanding usage (gaming, videoconferencing, drawing, etc.). My symptoms have been an increasing number of very thin black lines on the top and bottom of the Surface display and, eventually, flickering and ghosting as the temperature climbs.

I have been able to manage the issue with a fan pointed at the back of the Surface which keeps it from every getting hot enough to start flickering and ghosting (the thin black lines still appear). I've also had limited success adjusting the Power mode to "Best battery life" (versus "Best performance") which can reduce the power consumption, thus reducing temperatures. However, not selecting "Best performance" will likely, as the name suggests, reduce the performance of the device.

However, the best option for me was to use an external monitor and flip up the Surface keyboard over the display. This turns the Surface display off and I have seen no issues, performance or otherwise, on the external monitor in this configuration, even in High performance Power mode.

Hi all. I did everything I could find on different websites, nothing works or improves the situation. And then I read something logical: it is a hardwareproblem of overheating a or some components. This corresponds to my findings: when starting up, it does all ok, but after a while (when heating up?) it restarts its flickering. Remedy: install a second screen, use the Surface as desktop only, and never buy a Microsoft device again when it finally breaks down completely. Good luck to you all and keep me posted if a working remedy appears...

Hmm, this thread may be a few years old but I've recently been experiencing similar problems with my 4 year old Surface Pro 4 running on Windows 10, noticeably after trying to share my screen on MS Teams, when all hell let loose on files overlaying files but all remaining see-through to the ones below (chaos on the screen). I only learnt later that I should have shared 'Desktop' instead of 'Windows'. Anyway, the issues have persisted despite uninstalling and reinstalling the Display Adaptor drivers (Citrix and Intel 540), reverting to a prior Restore point, uninstalling recent Windows updates, engaging on a chat with a Microsoft help desk. You name it, I've done it, and whilst the issue is not constant, it triggers in when scrolling or viewing some videos. It's draining productivity and whilst the easy answer is buy a more recent version of Surface Pro, to be honest, if Microsoft can't explain or resolve these problems, I'm a tad reluctant to buy another Surface.

Does anyone have a solution which actually works, or is the graphics driver etc now too corrupt or irreparable?

I have been facing this issue within 8 months of purchase and tried to find solution from youtube your official site.

Never ever on your site, I saw a Complaint box. Never ever dreamt that such an expensive device can create issue and that too from Microsoft.

Today after too much of frustration, thought of raising Complaint with Microsoft that I feel cheated, as within 30 mins of working the screen start to flicker and has been causing eye sight issue as it gets strained because of constant flickering..

Now here I read today that up to 3 years you do replace. 

Frankly speaking, I was about to buy apple when my friend recommended surface pro4, which he bought, since he insisted and willingly booked product on his card for me, which I paid him on delivery.

I feel cheated or may be my badluck.

I still would say that for 30 mins it works fantastic but too big a hole in pocket for this 30 mins.

They do nothing about shaking.

Better byu a new one but not SURFACE
