Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

If you go back and read this thread more thoroughly, Microsoft did acknowledged that this is a known issue. 

At this point everybody should just chill out. Microsoft stated that update is coming on Tuesday 9/8 for this. You can keep complaining and adding more stuff to this thread, but it won't make a difference. 

I suggest to hold all your frustrations for 9/8, if you find out that update didn't solve this issue.

From what I remember going to Microsoft store, their communication with main offices is very limited and there is barely any information shared between main branches and local stores. The i5 version doesn't seem to have this issue anymore, since the last time I went to their store all their i5 units were connecting at 300Mb and all i7 units won't connect pass 72Mb (yes...I actually jumped through all their demo units and checked...).

We can only wait now....

Well it's September 8th and unless I missed something Microsoft released no update for the Marvell network controller on the Surface Pro 3. I'd love to see an official response from Microsoft at this point to at least give us an update on where they are in regards to this issue.

Now I'm wondering if there're two separate issues - the disconnection/instability issue, and the BT interference issue. I haven't encountered the former - my connections so far have been stable, although I have the i5 version and the above poster mentioned that the i5 versions don't seem to have this issue anymore. The BT interference issue still annoys me since it's been there since the SP1. I encounter it on a daily basis because I connect a BT keyboard, mouse, and headphone to my SP3 and the mouse is completely unusable when there's a file transfer over WiFi going on due to the interference! Ugh.

i have a first run i5/128GB unit and mine transfers at approx. 300mbps through my R7000. I should be getting double that at the very least. But mine seems stable for now.

Is you Bluetooth turned on? And are you connected to the 5ghz band?

From what I know, if BT is turned on and you're connected to the 2.4ghz band, you'd experience slow WiFi speeds. It might be a hardware issue. This was never fixed in these SP1 and in other laptops that used integrated BT/WiFi solutions.

On the other hand, if you're connected to the 5ghz band, whether BT is turned on or not is immaterial. The trade off here is that a 5ghz signal strength drops off quicker with distance.

The specific issue that this thread was started on was the 72Mbps cap on wifi connection speeds. That issue still exist unless you take steps to work around it. I personally believe that the cap is done intentionally by Microsoft to deal with issues like BT interference and power savings. Now that customers are voicing their concerns regarding this limitation they're probably going to either remove it completely or give end users some type of toggle with a warning stating that disabling the feature will reduce battery life and BT performance. (Just my opinion).

I want them to release the driver option to show me the power mgmt. tab and I want them to unlock all power mgmt. options so I can tailor my own profile.

You and me both!! Most of the customization for video and power have been hidden from end users on the SP3. They're treating us like children. Even Apple which are notorious for limiting options on their devices aren't as strict. 

And not to hijack this thread but yeah I could use the Intel graphics control panel so when I output to a TV I can modify the overscan (don't get an issue when its connected to a monitor (go figure)

Yeah. It's actually very simple to get Intel control panel. Just uninstall driver for HD card from Device Manager and install one automatically. You will notice that date of the driver will change from March to May and after reboot you will have Intel Control Panel.  I didn't notice any performance or battery issues while using it. The only annoying thing is that Windows Updates keep trying to make me install latest firmware because it doesn't like the version of Intel video adapter I am running. So, basically you will need to do these steps every time you upgrade your firmware. Unless you are doing it manually...

that did not work for me - I removed it from device manager and on a reboot it auto installs the original one...when updating automatically it tells me the best/latest is already installed.

What you got? i5 or i7? This works fine for me on i7 (HD5000). I don't; have to reboot to install the driver. Just uninstall and do auto install, then reboot.

I wonder if I removed the device and deleted the driver along with it (I was saving it by not checking the box) if the auto find a driver would snag me the latest from online? I do hide the Aug FW update as I do get prompted for it every day with my other updates
