Surface Pro 3 Slow WiFi - 72Mbps Max (driver)

I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

My question is if this is a common problem or not? Will an exchange get me a Surface Pro that works correctly?

We purchased a Surface Pro 3 (i7-256GB) this past Friday to use and evaluate the system for a further project outlay. There are many things to like about the Surface Pro 3, but unfortunately the Wifi device inside the tablet seems to be seriously malfunctioning as you also described, although since the problems are repeated all the time, I don't know if the "sleep" function is contributing to the issues. Our system is repeatedly resetting the connection, losing all connections, and is running at extremely slow transfer rates.

I made a number of screenshots and video showing a laptop wifi status screen and the Surface Pro 3 wifi status screen on either side of a desk. The Surface shows 1.0Mbps, but the laptop (a 2005 Dell Vostro) is experiencing no issues and is running at 130 Mbps.

The test network was a Verizon FiOS setup using the Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I router in 802.11n only mode. Our Surface Pro 3's lot number/date is 1428.

I realized this could be a minority problem, however, and therefore sent an email to our MS Corporate sales rep, but received no response as of now. I also called MS technical support on the telephone and the woman offered me a REFURBISHED replacement in the mail. I said I would return the product to the MS store before I accepted a refurb Surface for something I bought 3 days ago.

I would be really interested in some insight before I return the system.

Hello, unfortunately that is a key feature for me, I need the device to continue to alert me if emails are arriving even when the screen is off "sleep".   By using a separate wifi usb adapter I was able to achieve this and avoid all the wifi issues for now until they fix the driver.

    "Open regedit.exe, go to

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\ and set the value CsEnabled

    from 1 to 0."

Is this reversable?  Meaning, if this is done, is it as simple as changing it back or once it is done, does it change other things automatically too.

Besides the poor wifi on my new i7, this morning when I turned it on it saw no network adapters and I had to reboot.

I too can live without the connected standby.  I was fine with the Pro 2 with sleep and hibernate.

    thanks,

    Mike

the problem is connected standby.  the way it suppose to work is when you turn off the screen, it suppose to go into connected standby, which is low powered state while still connected.  in this low powered state, there isn't enough power to boost the wifi signal to what you would expect when you are using the system.  the problem is there seems to be a bug where the wifi is always in this low powered connected standby state even when you are using the surface.  to fix this, just disable connected standby with the reg key

    Open regedit.exe, go to

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\ and set the value CsEnabled

    from 1 to 0.

This fixed my issue and I'm using the latest MS patches and drivers to date.  I can live without connected standby for awhile till MS comes out with a fix.
