I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots. Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.
Anyone else experiencing this.?

I suspect I might have been wrong thinking that a clean w8 install would fix the issue. It worked well for about 2 weeks. Yesterday, all of the sudden it started happening again. I'm sending this thing in for repairs. And will keep doing so until its fixed or i get my money back.
My Surface Pro with both touch & type covers AND with no cover at all restarts constantly since the 8.1 update. About 3 times per day. It's very irritating and has caused others to go from "wow" to rolling their eyes at the surface brand. My surface pro is used in a high visibility environment with the cocktail flow app, so the frequent restarts are embarrassing for me and Microsoft.

Interestingly, I was doing a technology recommendation demonstration for my executive leadership team today (a major oil and gas company in Canada). 5 minutes into the presentation my surface rebooted without warning half way through a slide.
As a result, we discussed the issues openly (I am an independent contractor) and a lot of my experiences were echoed by a VP who was gifted a surface. This was already going to be a hard sell anyway as we have had a terrible run of experiences with contractors from Microsoft.
But I saw how something as basic as poor communication and no support has resulted in a mega corporation ignoring the millions spent on marketing and refusing an entire product line for the next 2 years off a 5 minute conversation. Communication, like timing, counts considerably - Microsoft desperately needs to adopt ADKAR.

I just wanted to say, that I got similar problems with my surface pro 1 64gb and my touch cover 1. The device mostly restarts, when I try to put my surface to sleep by closing the cover and flipping the tablet. Sometimes the surface goes to sleep, sometimes it just reboots.

I am also having this issue and I am pretty sure it is not 8.1 related but is most likely type cover related since it has only been restarting for a week or two and I have been using 8.1 since beta.
Also, not just when detaching/reattaching the cover. It seems to restart like 10-20 seconds or so after "flipping" my cover from being functional to non-functional. It is pretty random though since it doesn't not happen every time.
And one more reason I think it is type cover related is because I have it plugged into an external monitor/keyboard all the time and it hasn't restarted once while in this state.
