Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots.  Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.

Anyone else experiencing this.?

I think another annoying thing is the Type Cover losing all response and the fix is to detach and reattach it.

oh my yes.  I wish they had a QA team for this stuff that wasn't... you know, customers :)

    ...

Can you do a Refresh, install all Windows Updates, then upgrade to Windows 8.1 and install all Windows Updates for Windows 8.1 and see if the random restarts continue?

That's a big part of the problem, to be honest.  Just like moving to 8.1 - they think doing a full wipe is of no consequence to anyone.  We must not save anything, including game saves - Favorites etc.  And they expect us to do 2-3 hours of useless repeat steps just to wash their hands of it.

They know we won't so a wipe + reinstall, they also know that doing so would eradicate any log of how the error happens (not that they plan on reading it).  But this way, they suggest something, and we inherit all the effort to fix the problem.

I'm confident another user will find the fix, and I'm sure this will be clearly outlined by them as a Win 8.1 bug from rushing and insufficient testing at Microsoft.

I've come to anticipate failures (especially in support) when using any Microsoft product.

Thank you, I had just given up on this thread after Steven_B asked the following: Greetings Kyaoll,

Thank you for the update. Can you do a Refresh, install all Windows Updates, then upgrade to Windows 8.1 and install all Windows Updates for Windows 8.1 and see if the random restarts continue?

In response to me saying: I have been using a desktop IE 11and have installed all the windows updates including upgrading to windows 8.1 pro. I think that this is the cause of my problems to be honest.

The shear feeling of banging my head against the brick wall of his response stole my words.

it has been happening to a whole bunch of people since 8.1 came out.

what you are doing doesn't matter, you just browse a lot.  reinstalling and refreshing the OS won't help.  plugged in, not plugged in, no difference.  it is not a heat issue, low use still causes the restart.  event logs can show some info.

Microsoft just hasn't seemed to care or acknowledge we exist
