I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots.  Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.

Anyone else experiencing this.?

I am also experiencing random reboots on my Surface Pro w/ Type cover.

It started happening about once per week or two.  In the last month the frequency has increased to multiple times per day (even when I only use it for an hour or two per day).

It tends to be correlated with receiving input (touching the screen etc.) but not heat.  For example: it doesn't seem to happen when I'm watching a youtube video for an hour or two, but may happen as soon as I touch the screen to load another video.

I upgraded to the latest 8.1 with no noticeable change.

I performed a system "reset" (the one that removes all existing data and OS files and - apparently - replaces them with a clean install), with no noticeable change.

I hadn't considered the keyboard as a possible correlating factor; I'll do some testing without.

Very interested if a known issue is discovered, because I'd like to warranty it.

Same issue here.  Since the upgrade to 8.1, I have problem with my type cover 1 on my surface pro 1.  Sometimes it doesn't work anymore (can't use the type cover), sometimes, it prevents the display to rotate (in portrait mode).  When I disconnect the cover, the rotation is possible again, when I reconnect the cover again: boom, reboot.

Very similar issues with me too. Sometimes my Keyboard won't work or the mouse on the touch pad or the Surface Bluetooth mouth stop responding and the only thing to do is to touch the screen or to attach and reattached or turn off the mouse and turn it back on, but it didn't reboot in those cases.

My problem has been since the latest firmware upgrade. I have had 8.1 beta since it came out with no issues. They only started about three weeks ago after the upgrade.

Ever since the windows 8.1 update its been doing the same thing all other users here have been expiriencing. Yesterday it even booted me into the recovery menu. Noticed there is a "Return to factory defaults" option, wich removes all updates. Backed up my data first and then used that option to get a clean Windows 8 install. Has been stable ever since, no random reboots happening. No freezes (yes sometimes the surface just stops responding while simply browsing the web or reading a pdf, or other non intence jobs for like 5 seconds. In that time it doesnt respond to touch or keystrokes, and then after tose 5 seconds it snaps out of it and works again. All i can say is, for the time being, revert back to windows 8 guys, solved the problem for me. And its not like 8.1 fixes everything thats wrong with the modern UI ...

Same thing is happening to my Surface Pro 1 with Type Cover 1.  Random reboots for no apparent rhyme or reason.  My reboots are not contingent on using the Type Cover.

Microsoft needs to step up to the plate and address this.  It's been almost 2 weeks since it was originally brought to their attention and there hasn't been any help!
