I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots. Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.
Anyone else experiencing this.?

Same issue here. Since the upgrade to 8.1, I have problem with my type cover 1 on my surface pro 1. Sometimes it doesn't work anymore (can't use the type cover), sometimes, it prevents the display to rotate (in portrait mode). When I disconnect the cover, the rotation is possible again, when I reconnect the cover again: boom, reboot.

This is happening to me a lot as well. SEVERAL times a week, sometimes several times a day.
It started after upgrading to Windows 8.1. It just happened to me just now... I touched the screen, and it just rebooted. I've had it reboot while hibernating as well... I hibernate, and when I wake it up, it's a fresh boot. It once rebooted when I set the machine down on the table after using it on my lap.
It seems random, and it's very, very frustrating.
I've had other issues, like IE11 not remembering things (suddenly the new tab page loses all the frequently visited sites and goes blank... it'll forget all the cookies/login info/auto-fill entries. Sometimes right in the middle of using a page.
This is NOT just a single-user issue. This is a serious issue, and I'm growing exceedingly frustrated.
For the record, I only have a Type 1 cover.
I'm getting this as well. In point of fact, my Surface Pro seems to reboot quite a lot, and randomly, but it seems to be worse since upgrading to the Type Cover 2 (b/c my first Cover's trackpad stopped functioning. ack). I can't identify a cause, though if I try to fold the cover back and it comes partially detached, it will reboot. The act of detaching it at all can also cause a reboot, but randomly, and not all the time. I'll take it from my office to home and find it's rebooted as well, so it's very difficult to pinpoint a cause. Very, very frustrating.
*edit* My level of frustration continues to rise. During a conference last week, the Surface rebooted, seemingly randomly, throughout the days. I bought this specifically to use at conferences and meetings (as I'm sure many have) and it's proving to be all but useless, due to these continual reboots (and, like others, I'm finding the Type cover is occasionally unresponsive and, clearly, having to take the time during any meeting to futz with this thing is counterproductive). I'm not sure how closely these forums are monitored by MS but they might want to know that, in all good conscience, I am actively warning people against buying a Surface, for this reason.

Thank you for the update. Can you do a Refresh, install all Windows Updates, then upgrade to Windows 8.1 and install all Windows Updates for Windows 8.1 and see if the random restarts continue?
