Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

Same issue here.

Its really annoying and disappointing :(

Strange thing is that mine worked Fine out of the box and suddenly started crashing now...

Long pause.  Months pass.  No answer.

This is exactly why I oppose relying on Microsoft and its product lines ;).  We weren't exactly given a beta user discount.  We aren't getting logs because they are crashing due to hardware failures - which means yet again we have a product with an inherent faulty design.  Thats why we are being ignored - they would need to redesign and replace them all (gen 1/2/3).

If they can't fix it after 6 months, lets face it, they cant.  When a vendor wont even support its own products you know you got a 'lemon'.  And when they continue to use that broken model going forward, you have a failed product line.

We'd like to capture Kernel Dump files and Event Viewer Logs from when the Surface randomly restarts.

To enable Kernel-Mode Dump Files, please do the following:

1. Go to %SystemRoot% which is usually C:\Windows and delete any Memory.dmp files that currently exist.
2. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System.
3. Click on Advanced System Settings
4. Go to the Advanced Tab if it does not automatically go there
5. Click on Settingsunder Startup and Recovery,
6. The settings in the window should be:

When the Surface randomly restarts, please collect the Dump file, and Event Viewer data (below) add it to OneDrive, then post the link for us please.

For Event Viewer, go to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

1. Go to Windows Logs > System
2. Find the error with Kernel-Power that would relate to the time in which the Surface restarted.
3. Select the set of errors that relates to the error
4. In the right hand side under Actions, select Save All Events As

This will greatly assist us in finding out what is happening.

I'd like to post the Dump file and system log, however, even with the settings you list above to enable the memory.dmp, no memory.dmp file is generated, and the only system logs are after the crash when rebooting...

System log during boot gives this error. "

The previous system shutdown at 7:59:22 PM on ‎6/‎24/‎2014 was unexpected." yet there are not logs for the 30 min before the crash at 7:59 and the next log is at 8:13 "

The operating system started at system time ‎2014‎-‎06‎-‎25T01:13:17.493774900Z."

I'm still having issues regarding this. Is there a fix coming?

It's July 18, 2014 and still no fix to this issue. My Surface pro 2 randomly reboots every so often when the Typecover 2 is disconnected, connected or moved a little. This is a serious issue that can affect many users work.

I ask myself the same thing is anyone at Microsoft working on this? Why is there no fix for this yet Microsoft it's been 5+ months already.
