Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

Yeh 2-3 weeks was about the time period when mine started behaving weird as well. 

I will see if I find the time t carry it into a store on Monday and use the type cover from the Surface 2  Pro display model and see if it crashes as well then and of course vice versa - see if the displayed model crashes with my type cover. ^^

would sure be great though to get some MS attention here - after all the type cover makes ur tablet stand out from the rest...

My original problem only occurred after several weeks of use. I Mentally I attached it to the 8.1.1 update but it's quite possible its age or use related. I recently got a new keyboard, going from a touch type 1 to a type 2 cover. Everything was good for a few days but within two weeks i'm back to where I was - reboot's almost daily but only when moved. I'm hoping to get this escalated in Microsoft.

I know the original Surface Pro has the issue because I went through two of them.

Just curious how many of those here with Surface Pro 2s have the i5 4200?

I don't know if anyone knows, but there was a Surface Pro 2.1 with the i5 4300.

After upgrading to my Pro 2.1 I have not had a single issue.

When I talked with the guy at the MS store he said, and I quote, "It looks like it's a chipset issue."

So the answer to everyone's question is probably a hardware issue in relation to 8.1 that was fixed with the 2.1 revision. Kinda sucks though.

Nah I also got the new Version with the 4300 Chip.

In the beginning (like the first 3-4 weeks) i could attach and re-attach the keyboard like i wanted..

I played some game and moved it around.. took the keyboard off and on and no problem ever.

I remember how i thought: "Hey thats really well programmed because it must be a challenge to get the type cover revognized everytime and fire the drivers in the background without crashing..."

well buhu...

So I actually thought that it was linked to a software update which flew in but seeing how long this issue exists, i doubt that now.

I guess that we also all dont have the same third party software installed...

So i guess the only candidate left is a mechnical problem which comes from bending or something..

which makes us powerless to resolve it..

Can someone on this forum maybe try to connect his surface to a brand new type cover and see if it crashes ?

(maybe connect and de-connect like 50 times)

Like in a store or a friends house.. then we could check if its linked to the "age" of the cover thingy...

The i5-4300u is not immune to the issue, because that is what I have.
