Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

Is anyone at Microsoft working on this?

I had it happen again - when I closed the keyboard, my tablet restarted itself.  No crash log andnow I get the pleasure of restarting my downloads... opening my tabs, etc. etc.

I had the similar problem and which drove me nuts !

Last night I roll back the keyboard driver , it became much more stable now.

We'd like to capture Kernel Dump files and Event Viewer Logs from when the Surface randomly restarts.

To enable Kernel-Mode Dump Files, please do the following:

1. Go to %SystemRoot% which is usually C:\Windows and delete any Memory.dmp files that currently exist.
2. Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System.
3. Click on Advanced System Settings
4. Go to the Advanced Tab if it does not automatically go there
5. Click on Settingsunder Startup and Recovery,
6. The settings in the window should be

When the Surface randomly restarts, please collect the Dump file, and Event Viewer data (below) add it to OneDrive, then post the link for us please.

For Event Viewer, go to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

1. Go to Windows Logs > System
2. Find the error with Kernel-Power that would relate to the time in which the Surface restarted.
3. Select the set of errors that relates to the error
4. In the right hand side under Actions, select Save All Events As

This will greatly assist us in finding out what is happening.

Nothing to collect.  Lost work (again) and no crash file.  My settings are configured as you stated.

The only errors /warnings I see in the event log are ...

• WRN The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\VID_045E&PID_079C&MI_00&Col01\8&306b2e80&0&0000.
• WRN The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ROOT\WPD\0000.
• ERROR The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
• ERROR The previous system shutdown at 6:28:12 PM on ‎6/‎2/‎2014 was unexpected.
• ERROR The SSL client credential's certificate does not have a private key information property attached to it. This most often occurs when a certificate is backed up incorrectly and then later restored. This message can also indicate a certificate enrollment failure.
• ERROR The local Bluetooth adapter has failed in an undetermined manner and will not be used. The driver has been unloaded.

I have a surface 1 pro, with all updates innstalled. Win8.1 pro as os.

I have a power cover. The unit restarts/crashes at irregular times when handled physically.

There is no system to it, other than that it happens when i physically connect or disconnect the keyboard or move it in any other normal way. But it doesn't happen if i do not touch it, I think.

Problem: I do not have a memory.dmp file in the windows folder, even though my settings are as you described they should be, and the surface just crashed again.

The crashes has been more seldom than earlier, but today its happened two times the last hour.

Please advice.

I will collect it.  However I will send it through dropbox, I will not allow skydrive on my system after all of these endless issues:

In addition, anyone with 20-30 minutes to spare at Microsoft should be able to replicate this issue without asking someone who doesnt work for you (and isnt paid by you) to do the work for you.

But when it happens today.  And if I have time to do the work of M$ QA for free for you, I will be happy to do so in order to enable Microsoft to collect the logs and go back to ignoring us per status quo.
